  • Hour Meter in 2002 X-30 ??

    Looking at a 2002 X-30 First owner says there was no hour meter is this true ?? also are these boats still desirable ????.. Boat has trailer and hull was freshly buffed but needs complete new interior. would this be a good project boat for around 20K ??

    I would want to see it run and have a compression check done. There IS an hour meter on these boats. It is in the Tach. Its not unusual for that year/model to need an interior. MC interiors in the early 2000's did not last very long. Something to do with the vinyl they used around then. That being said, if the motor/driveline is sound I think its a good deal at 20k.

      As said, hour meter is built into the tach. If tach was removed , Ecu logs the hours as well. Suggest you get it inspected at a m/c dealer as they do a very comprehensive transfer inspection for potential buyers. Costs ~$250 but worth every penny. Includes verifying hours on Ecu, compression check, shaft alignment check, etc. you will likely be the one that will have to pay for it but better to I'd problems and negotiate price down Accordingly than have a surprise after purchase!

            should be in the tach. even if its dead, the ecm still stores the real hours. mine was replaced at around 300 hours so i have to add that back to the total on the hour meter to get my "real" hours. biggest downside to the hour meter is that it runs even if you are just sitting listening to the radio or filling tanks with the key "on".

              Didn't think it did this as mine has a little symbol next to the hours showing when the engine is running. Also the ECM can report out the hours at various engine speeds I'm told. Others here have said they recieived info on # of hours idling, at wot, etc

                i think the ecm can break it down, my hour meter isn't that smart though. it may be something about it being a replacement.

                  you can get hours on the ECM, have a marina check it out for you around $60 they can pull the hours and check over the motor/tranny.

                  several on the forum have the 2002 X30 including me, we used it all summer for multiple water sports and worked very well. Also took chop better than I expected. I added a ballast on the port side for surfing.

                    Looked at the mechanics notes when the boat was checked in:

                    Engine hours = 557

                    Ran out at 4900 RPM WOT, 160o temp, 45 PSI oil, 14 Volts

                    Compression as follows:

                    1 - 205
                    2 - 200
                    3 - 190
                    4 - 190
                    5 - 190
                    6 - 200
                    7 - 200
                    8 - 200



                    WHat do you guys think >>>> also 550 hours and do you think the bottom paint hurt the resale of the boat >????

                      I just picked up a 2003 x-30 w/ 225hrs and a very clean interior for 22k. Bottom paint is not a great selling point b/c it generally means it sat in the water, that combined with the MD sticker says it might have sat in brackish water. Compression tests look good.

                          20k is too much.

                          Agree bottom paint is a large negative. Sitting in water, possibly brackish is not good on hull, electronics and likely engine. Examine how much pitting is on bronze running gear to get some idea.
                          Regardless, going back to gel is not likely cost effective or going to yield a good result as the new gel is just a thick paint layer not like the original gel. Bottom paint that does not stay wet will not have as long a life and will require a hard paint if trailered regularly which is more expensive. Budget an extra 800-1200 every 3 years max for bottom paint.
                          Exhaust manifolds and risers would be a concern with corrosion. That will be another $900ish plus labor.
                          IF he is the first owner and does not know hour meter, another red flag.

                          Assume no trailer?

                          Agree a full inspection is definitely in order. More so this time than an average purchase.
                          NADA has a low of 23k and average of 26k so I would feel better at 16-17k knowing I am in for a full interior and its prior history if the inspection goes well.
                          Down even more if new interior means ALL vinyl and not just seat skins.
                          It did buff out nice but I would consider this more a "project" boat so be prepared.

                            It was the dealer that didnt know but after inspection they know more about it .. on previous page see pics BSLOOP.. let me know also it DOES come with a dual axle trailer

                              Mine did not have a trailer ... hope to get some pics on Tuesday when I'm back at the house. No problems with it except one of the pumps not working. Whenever I see someone asking for a value on here, it always low. Depends greatly on the market you live in and the boat condition.
