First, X-star is not an ideal surf boat, that being said it can me made more surf-able. I have a 2008. these suggestions are for port side surfing!! You will want to fill your port side stock ballast, then kgb or center front ballast. You should then add in the port side bow or in the tunnel, 5-600 lbs of additional weight/fat sack.
This is assuming you have some people in the boat, with out the extra front weight you have a very small pocket, nice, just small, the nose weight really adds to length, and is significantly noticeable.
If you can and have people in the boat you can have them on the port, side middle to front, or again, another 3-400lbs in the rear locker, or port side.
