  • Keeping The Bugs Off

I will be towing my X2 to Kentucky next weekend and I was wondering what you all use to keep bugs off the tower and tower speakers?

I thought about blue painters tape on the leading edge of the tower and saran wrap the speakers?
    OH-IO!

We saran wrap the towers completely every time we tow to the boat shows in the winter to keep the salt off.

saran wrap from aldi - cheap and it comes off easy... I like the tape idea but some folks have a hard time getting it all off.

I bought tower speaker covers from beyondthewake.com for my 07 x-2 that work great. Don't really do much for the tower but I like the Saran Wrap idea.

This leads me to another question. How do you most effectively scrub the bugs off the tower once they are plastered on?? I used a rough scrubber used for doing dishes and that worked pretty good.

On the tower, something like a good bug/tar remover (I even use Simple Green) and a scrub sponge is what I use.

Here's a good write up from AutoGeek: http://www.autogeek.net/remove-bugs-and-tar.html

I used blue painters tape last year.worked good, kind of a pain and looked ghetto down the hwy. This winter I bought speakersox rack covers. And am going to try clear non slip tape you put down on carpet cut 2" wide strips....Already had wetsounds covers for the tower speakers.

When I take long trips i like to use Mover's Stretch Plastic Wrap that you can find at any U-Haul. It's wider thicker and comes in bigger rolls than your store bought saran wrap.

I spray WD-40 on a rage and wipe the tower down before we roll out. Then when we get there just wipe the tower down with a paper towel. Everything comes right off and the tower is left with a little anti corrosion layer.

I have XM7s so they just get put under a front seat.
