  • Oil for Upcoming Winterzation

    Yes I know it's early to start thinking about winterization but I just got a flyer from AutoZone on the new RotellaT6 oil. It's $8 off a gallon and $40 off 5 gallons. We tend to do multiple boats around here so the 5 gallons would tend to go quick.

    Anyway the T6 Rotella is only offered in 5w40 and is full synthetic. I'm thinking of moving this direction but thought I would throw it out here and see what others think. Here's a clipping on the performance as related to our beloved 15w40 of the same make.....

    Shell Rotella® T6 provides extra protection against breakdown by heat and offers up to 70% better oxidation resistance, compared to conventional Shell Rotella® T3 15W-40 API CJ-4 oil.

    Should be ok for newer roller tappet motors if the weight is right. I was running in my 1995 - If you need ZDDP T6 has 1260/1147 zinc/phosphorous. The synthetic base stock of all synthetic oils gives you better temperature and oxidation protection.... not to start an oil discussion.

    Not a bad choice for oil in any way IMO.

        My only issue with the more expensive synthetic motor oils is the short amount of time in between oil changes. If I'm not going to use it longer then I can't justify the expense. If I wasn't changing oil every season then it would make more sense to me.

            If it meets the motor requirements you don't need more than that... it is oil... I have a 1954 AllisChalmers that still has the original un-rebuilt 45 hp 4 cylinder motor 6volt positive ground... and it has plowed, bailed, threshed (when threshing was still in style), spread manure, for 30 hard hard years... it used oil from the co-op and a flimsy filter IMO, and still starts as good as any new car.... doesn't use a drop of oil from year to year...
