  • 85 stars and stripes resto.

okay gang, time for this newbie to post a few pics of my winter project. I've owned the boat for 2 seasons, got all mechanical bugs worked out, now it's time to make it pretty.

Note the "orangish" color. I figured I'd need to paint , but color sanded for 6 hours, then buffed another 4 hours, and amazingly it's red again!! That is some thick gelcoat!

sorry about the quality of the last pic. (took it with my phone) I'll post some better ones.
Next up, replace carpet, and redo interior. anyone know what type of material the seats use? It's different than typical boat fabric.

It was a marine vinyl made by General Tire. It was discontinued some time ago. Looks like some of the interior has already been redone. Great boat. Best bet is probably it just look for a durable marine grade fabric in the closest color you can find it. Where are you located? A guy I know went thru MasterCraftskins.com and got some very nice results. I'm sure lots of people will have other suggestions of places that do great work. Looking great so far. Keep updating the pics.

You might try this link and ask them about it. Same manufacturer, but nit sure how similar it would be.

tried wetsanding...wouldn't touch it! I ended up dry sanding with a d/a using 240 grit paper to get through to red, then 600, 1200 wet, 1500 wet, and buffing it with 3m heavy duty compound, extra cut, and finally finesse it 2. Lots of steps, but worth it.

Wow, that poor boat must have been exposed to the sun non-stop. Great work.

I have the exact color of your boat in a 1984. I bought mine new and have files on where to get a lot of parts. I also have new dash switches for the 1984-85 year model. You can contact Keith at 972-998-1885.

Can't wait to another one look like this :

They are truly a dying breed. I love this boat. It was the best purchase I have made in 27 years. Mine is an 84.

Nice looking machine. I'm always in the market for a boat like this. Never sell an old school without asking me...

A really nice looking machine. I can tell you're proud of it... I like skiing but messing with the boats themselves is where my boating pleasure lies...

Excellent 84 model..... I've had several of them over the years.....

Looks like an old Wheel Horse on the lawn. Is it for sale?

                              .

I would like to see a full set of pictures of your boat if you have time to post up in the next few days.
