  • X-80 upholstery replacement

I have decided to attempt to replace the upholstery on my X-80 on my own. I live in Hawaii and resources out here are scarce....so I bought a Sailrite LSZ-1 machine, vinyl and will figure it out!

Any good comments or recommendations will be greatly appreciated while I attack the upholstery!
    Thanks,
    Darrell

Steaming can help properly wrap the tricky skins. If the completed skin is small enough, I hear throwing it in the dryer for a couple of minutes accomplishes the same thing, ymmv.

Sounds like you are trying to make them from scratch. I am not sure if your Sailrite will be strong enough.

Remove old skins, make markings on every seam about 6 inches and on the curves, separate them at the thread seams, copy each piece onto new vinyl with chalk, sew those pieces together.

Use proper thread, marine staples, and good luck.

I've done 7 cushions so far with gray and a carbon fiber vinyl....turned out pretty good so far....Sail rite machine seems to motor through pretty easily.....
          Thanks,

The book above was ok, I read it this week...I got more out of the youtube videos on the sailrite website. A video instruction is great.

I'll post some pics this week with the progress.
              Thanks,
              Darrell
