Over-cab bed rack advice

I am looking at setting up a ladder rack in the bed of my F-150 mainly to transport our kayaks. I'm concerned that a standard bed rack would put the kayaks too far back and may interfere with towing a travel trailer. Does anyone have any experience with over the cab roof racks? I've come across a few options....

Apex

Paramount

Smittybilt

Any other good options for hauling 2 kayaks that you guys have figured out?
Thanks

Can you put them on top or back of the trailer?

Unfortunately not. We are renting the travel trailer and there does not seem to be a good way to put them up top or behind. Plus, I'd like to have a rack on the truck to be able to haul them in the future.

Got it.

Looks like you are on the right path then.

Unless you would want to look at a cap with enough structure to put the kayaks on top. Then you get a lot of covered storage space too. Hang it from garage when you donít want it on the truck.

not sure of brand, but I have seen an over the cab rack that extends up to the front bumper with a stiff leg down in front of the hood for support. Gives the full length of the truck above the cab ... and could possibly modify one of those you listed to do similar with a little fabrication.

I've seen Yakima/Thule roof racks setup for kayaks. Depending on your cab size and kayak size, that might be an option as well.

My concern with the Yakima/Thule racks for me (other than the $900-$1000) is that with only two crossbars in the bed, the kayak would have to be mounted farther back on the truck causing too much of an overhang in the back hitting any trailer I have.

I ended up ordering the Apex last night. Should allow for mounting the kayaks forward. We'll see how things go.
