1998 5.7 350 hp mercruiser

anybody know the correct timing and carb air mixture {screw turns).new 2 bbl carb,new wires,new dist cap and coil.starts and runs at idle and slow speed,when given throttle backfires and bogs down thanks jerry

If the problem is happening past an idle it has nothing to do with the air mixture screws if it is a carburetor issue. . That sounds like the accelerator pump or something is stopped up in the main jets. Could even be a fuel float setting. If you’ve got about 12° initial timing you should be good there.

And the engine is not 350 hp it’s 350 cubic inches.
