Trailer Transom Straps

It always amazes me that people debate using transom tie straps when towing their boat. Not sure of the story behind this situation but it appears this boat did not have any straps, transom or bow.

Been there.

It happens...unless the dealer said it is OK...that boat can't go anywhere....or I only trailer a few miles...

Thanks for posting.

You ever follow someone who crosses a railroad track?

You can see air under both back bunks .
Even on big heavy v drives.
I strap.

That looks like a boat buddy in the road and it came off . It looks like no winch strap was hooked up. hit brakes and boat no stop, bummer

Jack-knife? Look at the driver's side rear bumper damage. The trailer looks bent, too.

Looks like he got t-boned and the trailer took the brunt of it and failed from the side load. The starboard guidepole is missing too. A policeman seems to be talking to the driver of the other vehicle involved.

While I have to admit for the longest time I didn't use transom straps for the very short distance trips I took I now use them all the time. Biggest reason..... Boat Buckle straps that are permanently mounted on the trailer. It's a whole new level of lazy if you can't put the straps on when they're sitting right there and only take a couple minutes top to attach. I'll be taking it another step forward this fall by installing the retractable bow strap as well.

As to what happen to this rig.... The boat buddy is sheared off and the trailer is bent and twisted. This doesn't happen from a panic stop in a straight line. I have a feeling there was some panic maneuvering going on here or an impact that got this trailer bent out of shape. Not all that sure they would have driven away from this one even if the boat were bolted to the trailer. Then again the straps certainly wouldn't have hurt, that's for sure.
