I just bought this boat.. She's a little rough but got it cheap and it seems to run okay. I do have some confusion with it, though. The concave rear section of the hull to my understanding in 1985 was to accommodate for a 14" prop due to powerslot xmsn.

The power slot / gear reduction was available in 85 and 86 (that boat has the 86 graphics, which leads me to believe it is an 86). The hull was always made that way and allowed one to select the slot option (1.5:1 gear reduction). It cost extra so it could easily have the standard 1:1 transmission, 1" diameter shaft, and a compatible prop. You are making assumptions without basis.

This boat definitely does not have a powerslot, and while this was not a deal breaker for me, it seems unusual.

Not unusual at all. If you know it is a standard transmission, that is OK. No big deal.

Merely an opinion editorial. I owned a slot on an 83. I am pretty sure they came with the hull configuration in the earlier models. I can't bet the farm on that but it doesn't impact your boat...it is what it is....

I can't imagine that someone would go through the trouble of replacing the shaft, prop, and whatever else to convert to 1:1 if the PS xmsn broke down instead of just replacing the PS if it ever existed in this boat. Thoughts anyone?

Not likely, etc. You have an 86 with a standard transmission (if you have verified that) and it will work fine. The hull slot does not mandate the gear reduction option.

Wow it looks like an 86 except for the open prop dish which would be an 85 mabey it was a late 85 production. The 86 prop dish was closed in the back. As in this pic of my old 86 (top)

Well, I see I'm getting a good education on the differences between the various years and models of MasterCrafts. I didn't know there was that much to learn. Thanks to everyone who has chimed in here with the extra info. I added additional photos. The hull ID is MBCSABT8j485. Perhaps the extra photos and ID will better tell the story of the boat.

I don't pretend to know all the ins and outs of the different years and models. I thought they were all prostars in this vintage. Apparenlty not. What I do know is that I have a very nice, extra clean, incredibly well maintained boat here. It has given our family years of fun and it has a ton of fun yet to give to another family. Hopefully someone else will be able to enjoy it as much as we have; regardless of what the true name of it is!

The 86 was called a Prostar. In 87 it was the Prostar 190.

X2 on the 19 skier designation. Also, the hull angles in at the bottom, which is a change that occurred on the86 model. The graphics aren't the only visible difference between that boat and my 85. Could you get a pic from behind of the bottom of the transom looking forward toward the prop showing from the prop up to the platform?

So that boat was repainted? If so that's sorta like taking a Trans Am and turning it into a Formula.

And I don't think an 85 or 86 MC was called a "prostar".......it's a 19' Skier.
The prostar name started in '87 with that hull change IIRC.
