  • WTB 93-95 ProStar 205

    Hi,
    (First post, longtime reader)
After having owned several ski boats (normal progression...Glastron trihull w OB motor, SkiBrendella, Malibu ResponseLX).....time has come (I.e. wife and family dictate) that we need an open bow with walkthru. We are a SKI family (not wakeboard) and I’ve done my research.... Budgetwise I can swing a 93-95 MC ProStar 205 or maybe a ‘01-‘04 Malibu Sunsetter LXI. (Need a family boat w slalom course wake...not a wakeboard wake).

I am going to look at a 95 PS205 in WI next wk...if it falls thru wondering/hoping there are other options out there I’m not seeing. (I might also go look at a ‘94 PS205 in MN.)

    My criteria:
I have the cash now but I’m in no hurry to buy...need it more for summer 2020 than now.
Located somewhere between Central FL and WI
    Fuel Injected
PerfectPass would be really nice but not required
Tower NOT required but would be nice if a Fly-high was included
Trailer must be included (and roadworthy)
Price reasonable for condition... I care more about a solid well cared for engine and drivetrain...than gloss.

I’ll check back next week. Especially if the prospective purchase falls thru...
    Thanks,
    Chad

A 93 will not have fuel injection unless you find the LT-1 engine. Most 93s come with the 351 carburetor.

          What is your price range?

I might have a 97 PS205 that would fit your needs.

            Maxpower 220: I need a 93-95 for skiability.
SpOOky if u r interested in selling, PM me. Let me know where u r at....I’m really close to pulling the trigger on buying one.....I think. If it falls through I might have a lead seeing on a barn find ‘93 w the LS1....kind of a sketchy seller though...not very responsive.

I understand, my boat seemed to check all of your boxes except for year/hull. PPSG, EFI,very good mechanical, trailer, extended pylon and very fair price.

Good luck on your search and ultimate purchase.

Well here's mine I'm really contemplating selling it's mid July and we only went out one time so far. And when we do go out no one wants to ski, board, tube eat... but me and I'm over it !!! No one else wanting to learn or have fun behind the boat. I really enjoy restoring them oldies, I'm on my 3rd MC.
Now I think I'm gonna order a 22' Lund Tyee with a 300 over the winter and just fish !!!
New cover, Acme prop, wheels, radio, wet sanded and decals and fold away tung since I bought it last yr. I'm 3rd owner and she's in really great shape for a 93' (25th anniversary). Motor 351w 285HO 1:1 trans.
Prob gonna add seadek to trailer and redo the bunks by months end... Oh and add LED marker lights on trailer, rear lights I already replaced with LED last summer.

So....I’m a ski boat owner again....I bought a pretty much stock/unmolested 1994 MC PS205 today. Indmar 350 w the TB EFI. Previous owner traded it for a pontoon. I got it for $12K.
Needs tires desperately, decals and some elbow grease to restore its luster. Can’t wait to use it. Only 360hrs (pls don’t lecture me on hazards of little used boat engines....I’m aware).

Dealer said they just replaced steering cable though steering seems really stiff compared to the many other inboards I’ve driven. Idling, it turns OK...but under power ..it’s especially heavy to turn left. I can live w it but any ideas on how to lighten up the steering? Is Rudder box adjustable?

No adjusting the cable. It is a fixed gadget. Rudder box is not adjustable.

From all I have seen 99% of the time a new steering cable is the ticket. Don't trust the word of someone else under this described circumstance.

The rudder port may need to be rebuilt but that symptom is mostly from water leaking by and not so much stiff movement. If it has a grease zerk, give it a shot for the benefit of any question or doubt.

New cable is easy to install.

Low hours is good in my book. You did OK on the price as long as the skins are good.

Where did you buy? I'd like to call and ask about the sand and rust boat in the background. I am looking for one specific boat in that color scheme.

                    $0.02

                            Sweet boat.
Steering. You could disconnect the rudder link in back (pull center section of floor up), and see if the rudder turns freely. Also turn the wheel to make sure the cable turns. One of those two is causing the hard steer.
Rudder May need dropped out and clean out the old grease etc and then put back in with new grease.

Will try cleaning the rudder and regrease. Unfortunately I’ll be away on a work trip til late September....so it will have to wait til fall. That will be my time to work out the kinks (steering, etc). Fortunately SC is almost skiable all winter. Will post progress (and probably questions) later. Thanks all so far.
