This boat has been listed since 8/4 but it seems like I have been seeing it longer then that.
The price is below NADA low retail by thousands of $$$. IMHO this is one sharp boat

If I could pick it up for around $18,000 it seems like that would be right around the non-covid price. Anyone agree/disagree?

Also, has anyone seen this boat before in person, or know anything about it?

It seems a little too good to be true

The boat is a 2001 mastercraft xstar It is water ready The motor has 710 hours on it Trailer brakes have been recently reworked as well as a new al

Its worth looking at. To good to be true? Just briefly looking at the ad I didn't see anything that seems like a scam.

No CF numbers on the hull. Could that be a red flag?

Second Peyton's question, because that's a haul, but also want to point out after looking at the pictures that it doesn't look like it's been all that well maintained. It's also likely a ProStar 205V and NOT an X-Star because the capacity sticker reads 12 instead of 11. I know this because my 03 X2 (same hull) was custom ordered without ballast due to wake restrictions on the first owner's lake and also reads 12. Not that it really matters, but it may speak to the owners knowledge or lack thereof. 11 was standard capacity with boats ordered with ballast on that hull. Lastly, I'd add that it has the LTR 330HP versus the 350 MCX. Not a showstopper, but MCX is typically preferred. I wouldn't make an offer on a 19yo boat without a water test. Having said all that, if you have additional funds that you can "invest" into potential repairs and outfitting it to your liking, it may be worth investigating further. Don't know your budget, or what you're specifically after. I can say our boat, same hull and tower, has been awesome. We are second owners and bought it in 06 or 07 I believe. Also keep in mind that a lot of people predict a flood of used inventory in the next 12-18 months due to Covid.

/edit Also, maybe I need readers, but doesn't it say 137.X on the hour meter? Given the listing indicates ~700+, that could be a flag.

Good observations. It actually says 205V on the capacity sticker.

I do, which is about as far from this boat as could be. There are almost no mastercraft's in my state to begin with so used ones are even rarer. I am resigned to the fact that I will have to travel to get a used boat with the color/options/extras etc. that I want.

About the hour meter, if he replaced the gauge would the hour meter read the actual motor hours or start at 0 after the installation?

I would wait. There's going to be a lot more boats to look at as early as late winter. Don't get me wrong, older MC's can still be great boats as is; either with a little/lot money or with simply some elbow grease. The previous owner determines how much you'll need to spend to make it just right for you. It's as much who owns the boat before you as it is the boat itself. That hull is amazing, mostly decent at everything, but $20K, even $18K for that boat seems like a stretch with the language and pictures shown. I'd let it go.

I wouldn't shine away from something out of region, but I'd be prepared to grab an airline ticket, a go bag and go water test something you're seriously interested in if it's out of state.

That doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. My point was that the owner is likely listing it as something it's not. My 03 tower has a sticker that says X-Star on it. 2000-2002 Wakeboarding was just taking off. They had to reregister with the Coast Guard when they started building in factory ballast. After that the stickers changed. As did the swim platform brackets on the 205V hull.

You are way better off to find something that is not on the other side of the country to start off with. You may have to drive a little to get the boat you want but you can upgrade boats for the amount of money it would take to get one to you from Cali. Also, while any boat you buy can have issues even if it is immaculate, it is better in my opinion to fork out a couple extra grand and get something that someone has really cared for and will not be a constant money pit(even more than they already are). Something like this you could easily have $10000 in real quick.

If he replaced the gauge itself the hours would still remain. The only reason that the hours would be reset would have to do with the computer being replaced. At least this is how my boat is. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

This is incorrect, my boat had 650 hours when I bought it and I put in Feria manual gauges and it no longer reads those same hours

Also, my boat is a 1999 205V And reads 12 people as well. My brother-in-law’s X one reads 11 people

Did they come with mechanical gauges from the factory?
