  • Flush kit

    O. K. I'm the new kid on the block. I've been reading a lot on this site but just got up nerve to ask a question. My new love I just got: 1999 MariStar 230 Vrs. 315 hours not a scratch never been in saltwater. The problem is I'm on a bayou that is brackish. The boat does not have closed system. (it did have a radiator hose with clamp and cutoff. have no idea where it goes) My question is: Is there a simple aftermarket device for flushing that is permanent and easy to use? I did a search to make sure this wasn"t a question every newbie ask but, did not find answer. Got other questions but I guess one at a time is the right way. One thing I learned someone on here will have all the answers. What a great site for us PROUD but new MC owners.

Welcome, Bruce. The device you want is called "Flush Pro" by Perko. Check with skidim.com or overtons.com. Roughly $50.

I ran the item in easties post. It works great and is easy to use and held up at least 100 hours without fail on my boat...

The only thing I wanted more out of the flush pro device was to be able to use the winterizing attachment to flush the motor while at the car wash on the way home from a late night saltwater run..

This wouldve allowed me to carry a pigtail hose and a bucket in the truck.. hook it up to the flush pro in winterizing mode in less than a minute - run the motor with carwash water out of my bucket... no sir, will not work,,, called perko many times for help and finally gave up on the problem...

Make sure you get the 1 1/4 inch one.. (They come in 5/8", 1", and 1 1/4" ID)

Ric, the only way you could make it work for what you want to do is install a seacock between the raw water intake and the flushpro (or, install an intake with an integrated seacock). At the car wash, if you closed the seacock, the only place the suction from the pump CAN go is up the pigtail hose -- you could drain your bucket in under 2 seconds. Just remember to open the seacock before you use the boat again.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pristine, well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "-- WOW--What a Ride!"

I've been an admirer of Tom023's arrangement. I like it better than the Flush Pro because it's not plastic (no breakage), and it uses a ball valve so no restriction, and no possibility a weed could get caught in the flapper valve. Also, the Flush Pro won't suck from a bucket of antifreeze, whereas as this one will.

No, but I'd recommend you PM Tom023. Those 1 1/4 inch fittings and ball-valves aren't something stocked by most hardware stores and he could tell you where picked up the parts.

The fittings appear to be Apollo - their website is here.

Thanks Mac. I liked Toms also but, I took the easy way out and ordered the Perko Flush Pro 1 1/4. I ordered from skidim.(great folks). Now for another of my rapidly becoming famous dumb a-- questions. The package says for direct drive. Any reason why it will not fit V drive?
Saw picture of fuel set up and your "marina" on my other thread. Nice!

Bruce: It will work on a v-drive. The problem you may have is enough room with the short hose from the pick up to the transmission. I had to get a brass 90 degree elbow and put it close to the transmission for it to work. It makes the hose connection close to the bottom of the boat. Bill

Bruce, I replaced the Perko flush pro with my set up. The Perko was located in the same location, there was about 4-6" of hose coming from the thru-hull, then the Perko, which gave hose access to the valve. There is a kit that you can install a fitting on the transom and run a hose to the perko. That way you just hook the water hose up to the fitting and flush...no need to get down into the bilge.

Here is one sold by Skidim. I think I have seen flush mounted ones as well.
