  • Trying to decide.....

    Hey everyone-
I just sold my 03 X10, I am looking at a 2005 XStar and a 2006 X2, I ski and board and was wondering if anyone has skiied behind both boats and can help me with a comparison, I am leaning towards the XStar but if the ski wake is night and day difference compared to the X2 I may have some more deciding to do......Thanks

My understanding is that the waterski wake difference between these two boats is substantial. I've skied behind the X2 once and was pleasantly surprised. The boat I was behind did not have the new attitude adjustment plate, I am told that the X2 ski wake is even better with this option. If I wasn't such a slalom coarse junkie, I'd have a X2 in a heartbeat!!

From what I've heard, the X-star won't be a good slalom wake at all.

Most people buy either of those boats for boarding. I just traded my '03 230VRS for an '05 X-star, although I didn't hit the water with it yet (darn snow!) I assume you don't ski as much as wakeboard.
I'm sure the wake plate on the X2 would help, and the smaller size/weight of the X2 would make it a better ski boat than the X-star.
      I was njskier on here.

I don't think you'd be happy with the X-Star as a ski boat. I've heard from a lot of people that the X2 isn't all that bad of a ski boat, and will definitely get the job done as a wake boat.

Get the X2, it's a big roomy boat with a decent wake for skiing and the wake for wakeboarding is nice also. I have the Maristar 200VRS with ballast tanks and tower since you don't see too many on the water and I like the Mastercraft decal on the side vs. the X2 decal and the thin stripe from the transome to the bow. Same boat but different in looks.

I would recommend the X2 if I had to choose. But the X7 / X9 both have the best of both worlds....

I have skied behind an 04 Xstar, it sucks at 15 off, 22 off, and 28 off - not that I can ski the course, just that I tried different line lengths to see if it was any better ... it feels like hitting a curb if you try and pull through the wake ... I have not skied an 06 X2 hull

I too have a Maristar 200. X stars are sweet but they are purpose built for wakeboarding. The x2 is roomy, great ride, less money and great wakes for both.

They also are easier to store, move around, and would require less of your tow vehicle.

We have had a few skiiers behind our X2- its not a 190 but its not a X Star either...If you aren't into competitive skiing it may be the boat for you.

Although I have not skiied behind the 05 X Star , I have skiied behind the 06 X-2 and thought the ski wake to be good at about 32 mph. I have owned a 205 V hull wich the X star started out as I beleive in 2001 and now the X-1 and in my opinion the slalom wake on it was not much fun. This lead me to my current boat wich is a 197. If I was going to get a V drive and also wanted a good slalom wake I would try to find a Maristar 210. To me it has the best slalom wake of all V drives I have skiied. On all V drives loading will be important for optimum slalom wake, ie, light fuel load and pax in front. Remember you can always ballast up for boarding but it is hard to get enough weight out sometimes for a good slalom wake.

Hmm. I have heard that the X1/205V hull is the best Vdrive slalom wake, mostly due to the fact that the 205 hull in a direct drive configuration is an AWSA approved tow boat.

I have also heard, from more than one person, that the next best boat is the Xstar but only at about 33mph.

All rumors only, no personal experience.

I do have a question...I wonder how much of a difference adding a plate would make on an X1?????

Thanks for all the replys, it is a hard choice, I fricken love the XStar.....everything about it is just bad ***, I skiied behind my sisters 05 23' Malibu Wakesetter and the wake was big but manageable, my old boat was a 1984 Mastercraft S&S by the way, it doesn't get better than that for a slalom wake. I would say that I am more of a skiier than a boarder but love doing both so may have to sacrifice the ski wake for the badass boat....hmmmmm

Any chance you could ski behind it before you buy it ?
