For real, It depends on how much cold weather skiing your going for. I have a dry suit I wear for cold weather with fleece under it. then I wear a full body wetsuit 3/2 MM for the rest of the summer until fall. I am a freeze cat, so I stay in a wet suit. I can go with out, but they tend to break falls a bit easier, and I fall often.

I recommend a BFI dry suit. Excellent quality!

As far as wet suit, just pick one that fits you well and fits your needs.

Does BFI stand for Big Fat Idiot? If so it might be perfect for me....

Speaking of that choking feeling, I have the BFI wet suit. It is most definitely a robust garment, well-suited to abuse. Along those lines, however, that robust-ness translates into thicker and tighter seals and the neck, and especially at the wrist and ankles. Prior to that, I had an Overtons dry suit and the lighter seals were definitely more comfortable - they were completely waterproof too, although I don't know how they would have stood up to repeated falls from a hydrofoil because I didn't have the suit long enough. I sent two of them back to Overtons because of leaking seams in the crotch/waist. My point is that a standard dry suit doesn't have to be uncomfortable, and as Erk said, the seals do definitely stretch to the point of comfort after awhile.

Between foiling and almost 40 years of scuba diving, I have many different wet suits of varying configurations and thicknesses. I can tell you that I have come to the conclusion that if the water is cold enough to need a full wet suit, a dry suit is most definitely the way to go. I like the baggy style - it's great to be dressed up in your nice warm polar fleece, slide into your suit and ski without even having to take your cell phone off your belt. The biggest benefit is not having to deal with that time interval between when you're clothes are off and you're putting on the wet suit as well as the time between where you take the wet wet suit off and put your warm clothes back on. Also, and maybe it's an age thing, I really appreciate not having to deal with that 60 seconds of shock when you first get in the water with your wet suit on.

Hmmm. Thanks for the advice Bigmac. I don't mind spending the extra on a drysuit but as you mention the choking was an issue, at least for me. I'll check out the BFI and thanks for all the replies, even you Texas X-30 you sick and twisted devil

Maybe if you quit ordering those double sausage pizzas you love so much, your neck will lose some weight and it wont be a problem.

I have not actually had a double sausage or any other pizza in quite some time. I have been eating chicken breasts, spinach salads and veggies all week. Hell I even ran 4 times this week
