  • Break-In Question

Are there any rules about filling the ballasts or using the cruise during the break in period? I've seen the wake at 34, I wanna see if it can get any bigger

I hope you're sure, and thanks for the quick response, not that I needed one.

Don't worry, we couldn't figure it out after being lectured at for 3 times now.

There is a shut off valve to fill the ballast in the rear compart of the motor that you need to make sure that it is open to fill them, other wise you will burn the impellers in the pumps

Is there a difference for the use of the center and rear ballast?

I would be a lot happier if you didn't fill the ballast tanks or pull heavy loads for the first 10 hours. You need to give the moving components in the engine a little time to "get to know each other". You should also try to vary the RPM and not keep it at one speed for very long.

All GM 5.7L engines have been Vortec engines since 1996 or 97.

Are you sure about that? I thought '98 was the first year of the Vortec heads. At least in an MC. Pretty sure my '97 is not. Thought that is why the TBI went from 275hp in '97 to 310hp in '98.
