I'm curious i'm in NE indiana where about are you that you still have that much ice on the lake this time of year?
At this time of year? It's still winter!
Many places I'm sure. Like anywhere in interior Canada. Northern Minnesota hasn't had a day over 39 degrees since November. It was -15F two days ago. Depending how close to the Canadian border here there's still 1-2' of snow on top of 2-3' of ice!
Well you need a foot or so of good ice to drive full size trucks on a lake. It will get in the 40's and 50's soon, a lot of wind, and it will all be gone in a month! https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/ice_out/...html?year=2020
Of course the water will still be 40 degrees.
To the op, I do see a little ice or slush in the photo. Can you imagine hitting a chunk at speed? Might be like hitting a floating bowling ball!
With the time change I may actually be able to get out after work now, and we're in the 80s this week...not to rub it in for our northern friends here...

Central Minnesota lakes just opened up this week. Get surfing! Unfortunately for local business owners many lakes up north will still have ice for the May 14 fishing opener.
