gas cap screw fell in

went to fill the boat this morning and the gas cap was no longer tethered to the inside of the spout. In fact there was a screw missing. Surely there is a screen/filter at the bottom of the filler tube to keep debris like this out of the tank, yes?

Check the other one! I have two fill caps my boat.

No, there is no filter at the bottom of the fill tube. There is a screen/filter at the pump pick-up point to keep material out of the pump and engine. If you ever clean out an old gas tank you always find small rocks and other debris in the bottom of the tank.

No harm done. Your fuel pump has a filter on it. Impossible for anything to get through it that is not in a liquid state
