  • mount ladder on teak swim step?

We are getting old enough that climbing up on the swim step is becoming a chore on our 2000 Maristar 210vrs. We still slalom ski pretty well. Any suggestions on a ladder for the teak swim deck that won't drag on the water? Either we do this or sell the boat and get something with a ladder. Boat has only 300 original hours and is in great shape-we love it.
    Thanks for any advice

Several threads on the forum about this topic. It is easily do-able.

I have one on my 22' X Star and previous X Star. It is really nice how compact it is and slides under out of the way. My dealer installed it after I took delivery.

Yes, this is very easy! I did it on my old Prostar209 and my new NXT22. Here's a pic of it on the 209. You may have to get some additional teak pieces to space the ladder away from the platform, if the existing runners are not at the right width for the mount holes. That was the case on my 209; however, the NXT22 didn't need those pieces. If you need the pieces, what I did was just buy some teak on ebay and plane it to the correct thickness (I've got a full woodshop). Other than that, it is super easy, just take you time with measuring and drilling and get some stainless hardware.

FYI, the ladder is "Garelick/Eez-In 19643:01 Under Platform Sliding Ladder". I got mine on Amazon after waiting a very long time for West Marine to tell me it was out of stock.

I put one on my 21 NXT20 and it messed the surf wave up, so I took it off.

I use a ski handle hooked on the tow eye on the transom and use the handle for a step. The handle hangs below the platform to use and then just toss it on the transom. Quick and simple.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I really appreciate your help. Sounds like any interference with water is negligible except for Ripler on his NXT20

That's also how I do it, you can tie a few knots at different lengths. Most ladders have 2-3 steps and 1-2 of those steps are absolutely useless.

That's a great idea. Thanks for that tip!

I am looking into adding one for our NXt22, but have resisted for this reason.
