  • Go surf assist for 07 X2

I have an 07 Mastercraft X2 and I’m looking at installing the Go Surf Assist system. I’m looking for someone that has an X2 that has installed the system on their boat and would like to know how they like it and what is their experience with the GSA system. Also can anyone recommend someone in the Nashville area to install the system, I would also like to have the ballast system upgraded and connected to the current ballast pumps. Please advise.

Thanks, I sent him a few messages weeks ago, no reply. I’m sure he’s not the only one. Hopefully someone else will respond.

Though I can't really help you with the X2 specifically, I can help with the ballast question. By far the easiest and most effective way to add ballast that utilizes the factory pumps is to install the WakeMakers Piggyback ballast kit. The kit includes two bags that are custom-made to best fit the rear lockers. It also includes hose assemblies (which fill said bags) that replace the factory hard tank overflows. I installed the kit on my 06 X30 and they worked great. I also recommend installing the WakeMakers engine divider panel saver kit. It includes braces that screw into the engine side of the panels to provide extra reinforcement against the filled bags.

I also had GSA on my X30 and it was fantastic. I'm sure it would work great on the X2 as well but I don't know for certain.

Thank you for the advice and information on this. I do appreciate it very much. Hopefully someone will come along with some advice on the X2. Just wondering if it’s worth investing $5000 to $7000 on this or should I step up to an X25.

Sorry but I have no experience with GSA on an X2 as our neighbors just use a wakeshaper on their 06 X2 but I definitely agree that upgrading the ballast with the wakemakers kit would definitely be a great idea even without the GSA (just make sure you reinforce those panels as they will bend if you don’t). As to upgrading, if you’re going to get a X25 either with GEN 1 or no surf system save your money and put GSA and upgrade the ballast on the X2. However, if the X25 that you might upgrade to has GEN 2, I’d go that route.

That's a hard question to answer. I don't think you'll get your money out of the GSA upgrade when you sell the X2, so the biggest risk is you install GSA and you still aren't happy with the surf wake.

I have a 2014 Gen2 X25 and I've done a lot of upgrades / fixes that didn't involve spending a ton of money. One of the most effective things I've done, is to install new surf tab actuators. Gen 2 isn't nearly as effective if your actuators aren't in tip/top shape. It throws the tab positioning off. I also removed all the cosmetic panels in the back lockers, cleaned up anything sharp and pointy, and installed much bigger rear bags. I also installed front bags, which is important to have if you've got a lot ballast in the back. I'm super happy with the surf wave on my boat. I have friends with newer MasterCrafts, and they are impressed with the surf wave I'm getting with my X25.

The X25 is fairly sensitive to setup. So if you do get one, let me know and I'll share some pointers. As c_reeder15 suggests, I wouldn't get an X25 without Gen 2.

I no longer have the boat but I installed GSA tabs on my 08 X2. It greatly improved the surf wake over listing the boat and was pretty user friendly. You will need significantly more ballast than stock. I had 750's in the rear lockers (wakemakers piggyback fittings), 400 lbs of lead, and an extra 400 lb bag on the surf side. Occasionally I would fill an extra bag with a quick pump over the side. I think more rear weight would have made the wake even better but a year or two after I installed GSA I upgraded to an XT22. Not surprisingly the XT22 was a bigger wave with stock weight than the X2 with GSA and extra weight. Overall I was happy with the GSA tabs on my X2 and the $4,000 I spent on the tabs + installation bought me an extra 1-2 years of boat use before upgrading. I probably got some resale value out of the upgrade as well.
