On Friday, I am going to look at a 2008 x-15 with 344 hours. The seller has all the maintenance records since he bought it, and he is the second owner. From what I've seen, it looks like a very clean boat, but is there anything I need to particularly look for? He accepted my offer at $34,000 and he is holding it until I can come get it. It has the wake makers bags, surf shaper, tubes, ropes, life jackets, and all the other toys included.

Watch out for any problems with the medallion gauge system which can be expensive to repair. Also ask about any fuel pump problems or fuel pump replacement. Other than that, the usual stuff. Make sure you get a test drive and listen for funny noises or vibrations.

I have a 2006 X-15. Not sure on the 2008 models, but the clearance on my trailer to boat on the front trailer cross member is very tight. Check that the previous owner hasn't power loaded and damaged the gel coat in this area. I would take a mechanic's creeper with you and go all under the boat. Check the boat and trailer. A lot of people focus on the boat and forget about checking out the trailer. Check the prop shaft and be sure that it is not touching the sides of the thru hull fitting. Eyeball the strut and be sure that it is not bent. Spin the prop by hand and see if it spins freely, may need to pour a little water in the cutlass bearing if it is dry to check this. Also wiggle prop shaft and look for any play in the cutlass bearing, should be tight. Look at the engine and transmission mounts and be sure they are solid with no cracks in the surrounding fiberglass. After your water test, check both the front and rear bilges to see if any water has collected. These are the big things, probably could write an essay on everything to check.We defy the mafia!

Who engaged the dealer ? If they were working for you to do a pre-purchase inspection then that's highly unprofessional and I'd be complaining to the dealer and to Mastercraft. If you asked the seller to get a written report and the dealer relationship was theirs, then I guess you learned a tough lesson.

Your agreement with the seller for $34K was about normal depending on your location and boat condition. The dealer wouldn't have much room to work giving him $34K and then reselling. I'm guessing it was an employee at the dealership buying it for himself and he offered the seller more than the $34K. If it were me I'd contact the dealer to complain. I'd be willing to bet they no longer have the boat so pushing the issue would be moot. If they do have it, I'd push to get it purchased for the original seller agreed price plus their inspection fees, etc.
