  • 05 X-Star Price Questions...

I am about to pull the trigger on an 05 X-Star. I have a 2000 X-Star and will trade it on the new one. I have about 375 hours on mine and it has the LTR engine..330 hp. Perfect pass, single axle trailer, kgb system (1 sack) and is in great shape except that the seams have pulled on the sundeck and that needs recovering.

I am looking at two new boats. One is orange and is tricked out with a bunch of the Mastercraft by Design stuff. It retails for 89k, he has it marked at 81k, says he will let it go for 75k, giving me 27k for my boat.

The other one is blue and has most options. It retails for 80k, he has it marked for 74k, and says that he will let it go for around 69 or so, still giving me 27k for mine. Both boats have the MCX motor. 4 Tower speakers, ladder, the cheaper one has the 'slime' sprayer. Both have heaters, PPass, etc.

Do these prices sound right? Am I getting hosed? Any help would be appreciated. I really would rather trade than fool with trying to sell mine. I am in Tn. and we have a 10% sales tax, so that offsets some of trying to sell it myself.

I do like the Orange one....as does my wife and kids, but I feel that I am paying about 5-6k for 'bling'....although that would look way bad at night with all that LED lighting.

My main reasons for upgrading are to get more room. I have looked at the X30 and the Nautique 226, but I think that I am an X-Star man at heart.

Also, my daughter and I slalom a lot.( not on a course) Will the wakes be ok for us?

Those prices seem very fair. You will definitely like the new boat.

I would do some comparison shopping. I just checked out a 2006 X30 with MCX and many options and the dealer quoted $65K list, so I am thinking they would come off of that some. I don't know how much more an X Star, if any, would be MSRP.

      Here is a starting point:

Slaloming behind an X-STAR will be a trick! With high biggest wakes on the market, you will having a tougher time behind an X-STAR. Although if you wakeboard, GET IT!! it sounds like a sweet ride!
You don't have to buy a lake to own it~MasterCraft

PM me with the dealer you are using. I know of one in the area that has always been fair with us.

I recently purchased an 05 x-star. I spent many hours researching pricing across the country and talked to numerous dealers. My conclusions are that you happen to be interested in Mcrafts hottest seller so you are at a disadvantage--dealers know they will sell these boats pretty soon, unless the boat has an unusual color scheme that doesnt appeal to the average person. I think most dealers will tell you that they have not let the new x-star go for less than 15-18% off MSRP. I am sure that some have but maybe on leftover 04 or demo boats with some hours on them. Remember, I believe color is key to resale value, what will orange look like in a few years? Certainly looks great now but you havent seen an orange boat in while so it has interest. Will it look the same to a potential buyer in few years if you try to sell?? The x-star sells itself though. By the way, I too am in Tennessee. I am a dentist in Memphis, you dont happen to reconstruct smiles also do you? Just wondering b/c of your TT name.
I would be glad to share my buying experience with you. Email me at [email protected] Good luck, Mike Parrish
p.s. If your wife likes the orange and she wants it by all means get it!!!!!

When the new x-Star was introduced, I took a slalom run behind it for the local dealer, and ran through every available line length, but could not find one that wouldn't launch me into orbit. The shape of the wake at slalom speeds is one large rounded hump. If you are just out for a leisurely ride it's not bad, it would be like skiing behind a 23 ft. I/O, but if you want to cut, no matter how much you stay on edge, be ready for launch!

As I'm sure you realize, the new Xstar has a different hull from your 205V-style 2000 Xstar. You're probably going to have better slalom wakes behind your current boat than behind the new one. Have you looked at the X2 (think that's the same hull as you have now).

I would agree 100% with Parrish1 regarding color. Orange is great in TENN because of the University of Tenn. However, try to sell that boat up here is Washington state where purple is a great color and you'll not find many takers would be my guess. I had a purple '95 PS205 and it sold in two day by word of mouth. I never even advertised it. I don't think that would have happened in TENN. I think it is best to stick with standard colors; red, black, blue, and the primary metal flaked boats are great also. I say that because I have a red metal flaked X30. That thing looks great in the sun.

Good luck. I'm sure which ever boat you decide on it will be great.

I've not owned a metalflake boat, and not to say they don't look really cool (they do), but before you buy a metal flake boat, make sure you first speak with someone who has had to have one repaired.

                            East Tx Skier -

As a person who has a metal flake boat, I would completely agree. As far as I am concerned, they are NOT repairable - that is a down side. You will also be able to see any type of a repair in the gel coat. I have also been told you also have to keep alot of wax on them to reflect the sun's rays. Otherwise, the get coat heats up and will cloud up and look oxidized.

Metal Flake gel coat was not my first choice for our boat. It does look great and the deal we got on the boat was unbelieveable.

I was just echoing what George once said. To paraphrase. "Owned one. It was great. It was beautiful. I loved it. Not going metalflake for my next one."

I think it can be repaired pretty well (not sure about perfect). But the repair person shops are a little more limited and it's going to cost a lot more.
