  • hitting rev limiter, pulling to the left

i just took by baby out for her first ride this season. i experienced 2 problems:

1)last year i had mj OJ force4 prop rebuilt for what seemed the 100th time. afterward that rebuild, i hit the rev limiter at WOT. i figured the prop was just shot, so i got a new one. (giving me a good excuse to get a CNC prop). i purchased an acme 541 13x12. wow! that prop is a beast! however, i still hit the rev limiter, though not as quickly as with the old prop ....it appears to be around 4750-4800 rpm. anyone have any ideas? is the throttle linkage adjustable?....maybe dial it back a notch?
2)when i am driving at speed and let go of the steering wheel, it QUICKLY spins to the left. it never did this before; it always had the slight pull to the right. my only off season change was the 541 prop. the only other thing ive done is grease the zerk on the rudder. i have never filed /touched the rudder in the past

    any ideas appreciated
    thanks,robin

Hitting the RPM limiter when lightly loaded is a good thing. That means when you add people and gear, the engine will still be able to run in the recommended RPM range which is 4400-4800 at WOT. Your engine will be happy.

You said you've never touched the rudder, but did it come from the factory with the right trailing edge of the rudder shaved? If it is a neutral rudder, then I could see how changing the prop might have changed something that would cause it to pull left, although I have no idea what would be the physics reason for that change.

thnx engine nut.....i feel better now.....only wonder why its never hit the rev limiter before last year then...shes a 1999 and ive had her since she was born....weird...like i said the 541 spins it great; night and day compared to the old prop.

chicago190: not sure about it being shaved from the factory. i just looked at the FAQ "pulling to the right" rudder photo. i didnt remember where you would grind it to change it. before the 541, i ran the OJ force4 13x13 and occasionally an OJ legend 13x13. they both pulled slightly to the right and i was cool with that. running it today i let go of the wheel for a second and is spun FAST to the the left....made for a fun ride for the kids in back... LOL
        thnx again
