  • My winter projects wrapping up ...

Did some work on the stereo this off season. Replaced the factory JL 6 channel amp with and Arc Audio KS 900.6. Added swapped out the tower speakers for a pair of Wet Sounds Pro 485s. Added a Wet Sounds WS-420 EQ and an HSE Revolution volume controller. Picked up a pair of billet grills for the bow and added red l.e.d.'s to match the cabin setup. I picked up a Clarion CMD4A and Ipod adapter in the market place and will swap it in for the CMD4 that came with the boat for better Ipod integration. Took some crappy cell phone pics. If I can remember the camera I will take some with a real camera.

    nice!!!

how hard was the HSE install? how hard would it be if you already have the 420 on the drivers side? i'd really like to add that next year. was kind of hoping WS will somehow integrate that into a future version of the 420.

The install would be super easy if you already have the 420 on the drivers side. You'd move the input currently on the 420 to the HSE input. Run rca's out of the HSE out to the 420 input. The power and grounds are already there for the 420 so they'd be easy to tap. You'd just need to splice into the tach lead for the Perfect pass module-mine was mounted on the back side of the dash console. Real easy to do. Earmark Marine has the HSEs on sale for $195 right now.

thanks, so you're saying all i'd need to do is pull the dash away from the column and splice into the tach lead for PP? that sounds like a piece of cake. for some reason i was thinking it was more complicated than that. in the picture it's difficult to tell, but where did you mount the HSE? you want that fairly accessible, right? and lastly, i get the overall jist of the HSE, but does the HSE main volume trump the 420? in other words, are you now messing with the master volume on the HSE versus the 420?

Not sure how you boat is set up, but on my MS 200 I can access the back side of the dash from the bow. My perfect pass module is mounted to the back side of the panel that is located under the dash where the drivers legs would sit. I found a trouble shooting pdf on the Perfect Pass site for 2006 Mastercrafts that gave the wiring colors and pin outs for the Perfect Pass module. I spliced into the RPM wire and ran it to the HSE. I mounted the HSE under the center of the dash. It's not that visible, but after it's programmed you just need to turn it on/off. The HSE attenuates the signal that it passes to the 420. So when you're using the HSE above a set RPM the signal the 420 gets is unattenuated. Once you drop below the set RPM the HSE attenuates the signal to the level that you set. There's a video on Youtube that shows the HSE in action. Start with the HSE off and get the tower volume where you want it when you're riding. Turn the HSE on and it will attenuate the music until you're up and riding. The rider falls or drops, boat RPMs drop to pick them up and music is automatically turned down. I knew that the HSE would make the wife acceptance of the WS Pro 485s much easier.

I used some Planet Waves wire and connectors for the RCAs. This was nice because I was able to make the cables the exact size I needed. I wish I could have found a little better location for the HSE, but since it only needs to be turned on/off via a push of the button it should be O.K. where it's at.

You can't go wrong with Wetsounds....IMO

Does the HSE only affect your tower speakers or does it change the volume overall?

The way I have mine setup it will affect all the speakers in the boat. Right now I have one set of pre-outs feeding the HSE. The HSE then feeds the WS-420 EQ. The WS-420 has three sets of pre-outs (cabin, sub and tower) that feed the two amps. So when the HSE changes volume it changes it for all the speakers.

It's a "Rope Winder" It came with the boat when I bought it. Personally, I wouldn't pay for a new one, but it's pretty convenient. I think they've made some improvement to it for getting a consistent rope length, but for wake boarding ours has a knot the we use to gauge how much to real in or let out.
