Thanks for checking in to that. I'm definitely interested. Was planning on doing something with mine this offseason and the fact that they did the template sounds like this should fit well.

I called OrthoDek today, very nice. They have the template on file (was based on ‘07), but they send a dry kit first, to make sure template matches where hatches are, etc. then once confirmed, they will make and ship out. Was about $1100, not including swim platform (approx $300 more), but would consider a group buy discount. They will send you out a sample kit for different color choices as well.
Not sure I’m going to pull the trigger or not, but wanted to share with the group and gauge interest on possible group discount.

Thanks Streak, very helpful update. Currently discussing with the wife, she is concerned about the under 34mph ski wake (for her, one of our boys who's just starting slalom, and other learners. Fortunately we are not in a hurry, but if I see a good late season deal I might make a move.

After 19 years with our '02 Prostar 197 I'm looking around for an X14V to support the kids' wakeboarding interest. Wife and I both slalom, and I'll take barefooting runs when conditions allow. As some of you may know, the '02 vintage 197 is not considered among the top slalom wakes so I'm optimistic about handling the switch for open water recreational skiers (i'm at 32off 34mph). I've warned my wife that wakes for learning skiers will not get any better at lower speeds - not sure she believes me but ......

    Any comments appreciated.
Just sold my 197 after 11 years - loved the boat but wanted more room.

Test drove the 14DD and the 14v. I found them to be very different due to the weight distribution. I was surprised how different I found the V to the DD.

To flatten the wake in the V, you really need to be at least +34mph I found, even with the center tab down. Found the DD to have an overall better ski wake

Slower than that the wake gets pretty big relatively speaking WRT the 197. Which suits the purpose of wake sports. IMO the Vs wake was bigger than the DDs at the slower speeds but not substantially.

I learned to foot off the boom years ago on a 14DD, and yes there is more spray than the 197, but it’s manageable. My 4yr old daughter was skiing off the boom this summer again in some spray but not an issue.

My conclusion - if you still want a good ski wake, the DD is the better choice. And it handles more closely to the 197 than the 14v does.

And my wife (my primary driver) loves the boat more than the 197. I should’ve switched over years ago.

The seller said that Captains Call Marine did it. I think in MO, said they came out and scanned the boat, so I would think the template has been created. Might be worth a call to see.

I like it. It was provided by Orthodek by Captains Call Marine, according to the owner.

I’m very interested! Did you ask if they have the template for others to order?

Nice to foot off an ND Tower....

Why not ballast out your 197 like an X-7 and put a tower on it?

Thanks guys, I'm certainly open to the DD boat, with the motor in its proper place. Double D - a LY6 equipped rig like yours would be hard to pass up...looking good.

My wife thinks I'm nuts but I've commented that I might keep the PS197 even if we do make a purchase - keep it winterized and stored just in case we want to change back (keep options open). I've got storage and it's not depreciating much at this point.

I'd earlier hatched a grand plan to keep the 197 and pick up a used X10 (or X2 or ...) also, but I've decided I don't want to complicate my lake situation to that extent.

If you and the wife are both skiers, I would definitely look at the DD and not the V.
