  • I agree surfing isn’t a strength of the x-14 , but it is a fun option to have after skiing .

    • I am still working on using a suck gate to get a decent wave on my Direct Drive X-14 the hull shape means it has to go a little more forward than I would like but still seems to work. The wave I made was with both rear tanks full and only my daughter and I in the boat - more 'ballast' in the way of humans might make more difference. It's no modern surf boat and certainly the large platform causes issues - but I'm hoping it works 'enough' so my kids can surf

      • New x14 owner here. We purchased a 2008 last fall with the LY6 with the hope of being able to use for slalom, wakeboarding and a little bit of surfing. I am hoping we can get enough of a wave for at least my kids to be able to drop the rope. Also hoping to accomplish without adding extra ballast beyond extra people. Any suggestions on wakeshaper design and location that can help accomplish this? A DIY project would be preferred.

        • Thanks for the input, Wife and I are not course skiers but really like the soft wake and overall pull. Our previous boat was a Tristar 220 and it was a manageable crossing. The x14, 214 or even an x14v would probably fit the bill. Thanks again.

I have the same boat. I have not even attempted to put the wake shaper on my boat yet but I know that people have used this one. www.shapethewake.com Maybe this year I'll get around to it.
If its not a competition ski boat, its always second best.

            • I am sure everyone has seen this boat... not mine no relation but it seems to be a great buy. Priced to sell I would say.

On the surf wave of x14dd. I have a wake shaper as low and far back as possible. Full stock ballast 4 adults in the boat I can drop the rope on a larger skim style board.(175lbs) I am sure kids on the right board could do it with a wake shaper. I have the nauticurl wake shaper.

              • Thanks TDOT. Very encouraging that you were able to drop the rope with stock ballast, a wakeshaper and some extra people. When you say as low as possible do you place below the chines? I went to the Nauitcurl site and two of the shapers have images showing it placed below the chines. Any recommendations on which Nauticurl to use (looks like 3 options). Any other recommendations from others?

                • TDOT - where do you manage to get the shaper on the side of your hull? I've found the shape means I can only get it to stick to the area of the hull just above the chine between the x-14 bullseye and the X-Series badge down on the waterline. Do you have a pic?

                  thanks

                  • When I use it, it does sit right at the waterline when the boat is loaded. It is low enough to push the back end around.(that’s what your looking for) It does splash a little bit... if you are not careful... little splashes are not the only water you will have in this boat with it loaded down

                      • I am the second owner so I cannot be absolutely sure it is original, when I purchased the boat there was no mention of it being any different... all that said, yes it is a 3 blade in what appears very original.

                        • TDOT Thank you! Not only do we have the same boat, we have the same wakeshaper!

I guess I had mine too far down in the water!

                          Thank you!
