Lake Temperatures

With this hot weather we've had so far this summer in the midwest, our water feels like a bath tub in KC. Last weekend on the lake I boat on, water temp was 87 degrees. The weekend before that.... 91. 91 freaking degress, are you kidding me?

You almost can't even get relief from the heat in that kind of water, not to mention the plethora of bacteria that can spring up along the areas where people beach their boats due to the shallow water. The water around those areas is probably even warmer.

How are the lake temps where you guys are at? I think 80* is just about perfect for water temp where it's nice and comfortable, but still refreshing.

part of the ohio river was about 90 last weekend, it was gross, like falling into a hot tub.

my home river, the scioto, fell back down to around 82 this past weekend. its pretty comfy at that temp

warm water is also dangerous for that brain-eating amoeba... especially since we havent had any rain and there's no current in the rivers.

Our lake hit 92 last weekend when it was 104 outside. I was off the water this past weekend due to maintenance, but I'm hoping it has dropped. We are leaving for a 5 day trip tomorrow night.

Yeah, the parasite stuff is what I don't like about warm water. Last year there was some parasite that took over one of the beaches... can't remember the name, but it basically latches on to your digestive tract and you're basically crapping water for the following 3-4 weeks. Glad I didn't catch that one...

I'm surprised that hasn't had a little infestation on the beaches. There's an area where people mainly hang out on our lake that isn't more than 10 feet deep for probably 300 yards off the banks. Makes for some VERY warm water.

I'm not even inclined to check the water temp's this time of the year on the "hot" side here at Lake Anna. It's a far cry from refreshing however...

belews lake in north carolina, it is a duke power-plant lake, it had to be 100 degrees on the hot side of the lake yesterday. On the backs of my legs it felt like it was burning. Kinda like when you get in a hot tub or shower too fast. Cooler side was probably in the upper 80s

Haven't checked the temp lately, has to be over 80 in our almost 300 acre lake. Last year our public beach was closed down by the DNR/Forestry Dept due to high levels of e-coli in the water. Either someone's septic system failed and dumped into the lake, too many diapered kids playing in the water after they poop or the many ducks and geese on the lake congregated too many times there. Water is shallow, all sand dumped in there for the beach and overcrowded. I avoid that area with my grandkids as much as possible. Now that they like to jump off rafts we do that in deeper, cleaner water!

Yeah the lake I'm on is 7500 acres, and still reaching 90 degree temps. Crazy.. We've just had no rain to cool it off.

Kentucky lake was in the high 80s about 3 weeks ago when we went out there and thats a big lake. We had several 100+ days and over a month of no rain. The water was about a foot lower than normal. I can't count how many large fish I saw floating dead in the channel. Maybe low oxygen levels in the water? Since then, we have gotten a good bit of rain, and the highs are not getting out of the mid 90s. The fishing report says the lake is back down to about 85 and the level is about 0.4" low. My pool at home was pretty warm, but it was back to slightly cooler than desired temps yesterday evening.

Depends on the lake depth in central MN. But the lake on ski on daily here was 89 this morning, only going to be warmer tomorrow with air temp reaching over 100 today!!

Common incidents here in Florida, more than there are alligator attacks.

Once the amoeba enters the brain, it usually causes a fatal infection called primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM).
Initial signs of PAM include headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, loss of smell or taste and stiff neck.

The disease spreads rapidly and usually results in death within three to seven days.
