Bought a new 2006 in may. Standard prop does not provide a whole lot of power out of the hole. What props do people use? Also what top speeds should I expect.

In order to estimate top speed, we need to know what kind of engine you have in the new MC.
If you do a search in the forums, you should find some prop suggestions.
Otherwise, give ACME a call and they will let you demo a prop to see if it is what you are looking for.
Last order of business, we need photos of the new boat.
Welcome aboard!sigpicwww.boathouseh2o.com

I would say unweighted you should be right around 38-40. Give or take depending on how full the gas tank is, number of people, and gear. NO BALLAST. That would be after proper breakin procedures on the engine.sigpicwww.boathouseh2o.com

We've got the 2005 X-30, MCX enigine, with an Acme 847 that we're real happy with, very nice hole shot. Top speed with 2 people and no ballast is about 48 mph, according to the spedo which has not been calibrated with GPS.
The weight of your boat went up quite a bit from the 2005's, though, even without ballast. You probably want to call OJ or Acme and ask for recommendations. Both seem more than willing to work with you to figure out what is going to work best for your situation. Good luck & can't wait to see pictures!

Not sure on the prop, but does anyone else think the MCX in the 06 X30 is a little small. Test drove one and rode behind one with an 1/8 tank of gas. It got me up, but I had to hang on longer than behind my friends X2 with the same motor. 3900lbs-60gallon tank(lbs per gallon) gear-people 5x180=900lbs 5000lbs+ total . Change prop for hole shot, no top end for slalom ski. Speed for slalom ski, no hole shot. This is probably close to a thread jack, but along the same lines. Any thought on this as the x30 I was behind had the trim tab and the wake was incredible for that size of boat.

My '02 X30 has the OJ XMP 13.5 x 17 prop. It has an incredible hole shot. Granted, I have the L18 engine (man - that thing loves gas). With 3-4 people on board, the boat will do slightly over 50 mph then it hits the rev limiter (I've never hit the rev limter, but I have heard that it will at WOT).2002, X30, L-18, Red Metal Flake (the possessed boat)

2006 X-30 Prop
Well, we have had our 2006 X-30 for since June 6th and now have 40 hours on the engine. We have the MCX engine and are using the boat exclusively at alt. 6500ft. (Truckee/Lake Tahoe California).
We have also been through three props.
Prop 1 : Standard Issue.15.5 by 17? Dog.
Prop 2, 13.7 x 15.5; recommended by Eric Johnson of OJ Props and by Cope McpHetres in Tahoe . Eric noted he had a specific prop for the new X30 under development, however it was not ready in in July. All in all, pretty darn good with much improved hole shot and ability to get to 5000 rpm at WOT. Top speed was about 47 with half to full tank, no ballast and usually 6+ on board (2 children under 10).
Prop 3: The WINNER: After damaging prop 2 on the trailer, we contacted Eric Johnson to inquire about the new prop he was working on for the X-30. It was ready! 14*14.25. Screamer. WOT at 5200-5300rpm (perfect), Hole shot vastly improved. Planes great, Top speed...no noticeable difference (maybe 45 or so).
Very pleased with the new prop. My advice: Contact Eric Johnson at OJ props. He will take your call and answer all your questions.
Also, final piece of advice: don't be a stumblebum like me when driving onto the trailer. On final approach kcik the prop into neutral. Will save you $425 bucks.
Have fun,
REDiculous, MC 2006 X-30.

I think he was talking about a white wedge in regards to color scheme? Either that or he left a golf club on the teakAt least you know one person who collected from the Cash Rewards program

Prostar, just curious... have you tried a higher pitched prop ... dumb question, but is the tranny on the 2002 X30 1:1 OR 1.5:1 ... I suppose if it is 1:1 then that is probably good pitch and I should just shut up and go to sleep
In waterskimag.com the 2002 they tested with the L18 had a 14 X 18 4 Blade OJ prop with a top speed of 52 @ 5100 rpms ... so they had a few rpm's to go to get to 5000-5400Last edited by PendO; 09-14-2005, 01:30 AM.At least you know one person who collected from the Cash Rewards program

The reduction ratio on my '02 X30 is 1.56:1 (I believe).
Regarding the prop, I have the SS OJ 14 x 18 prop as a backup. I switched to the NiBrAl XMP 13.7 x 17 and love it. I rarely get the boat to WOT becuase it is usually loaded with my kids and Lake Washington is so choppy that WOT would beat the hell out of us. This boat is still a flat bottom hull when running at 30+ mph. Just the back portion of the boat is in the water so the running surface is pretty flat and does not do well in heavy chop, although it is much better than my '95 PS205.2002, X30, L-18, Red Metal Flake (the possessed boat)
