  • A garage storage project

Moved into a new house a few weeks ago and the garage is 1-2 feet narrower than the old house.

Before (yes, that's the shadow of my wife sitting in the lawn chair watching me):

So I built this yesterday morning to increase storage efficiency.

Have no worries about the closet door, it's just the water heater. Besides, all I have to do is clear out the jackets to have easy access.

Mad backing-up skills are needed to shoehorn the boat in there.

    Time spent - 4 hrs.
Cost - $50...and one good finger

he said door was for his water heater, so no real worries and could slide in if needed to

That's a great design to hold gear
My garage is a tight fit too. I use a closet in the den to store all my gear.

well done!! the water heater should last long enough for your next build out for the new boat purchase.

                  looks good

you could extend that top shelf all the way to your garage door arm. Screw one 2 x 4 to the wall and at the end that is cantilevered you could put 2 x 4 or metal bracket to your rafters or floor joists depending on what is in ceiling. just thought I would offer more info

That's not a bad idea, but I didn't want to cover up the MC sign! :-)

Thanks for all the compliments everyone. We're taking the boat out tomorrow so it'll be the first test of unpacking and re-packing the shelves.

Where does one obtain a MasterCraft banner? I was contemplating snagging one at the last PWT but the wife shunned the idea...as well as the thought of handcuffs for a banner

I spent some time working for MC during college. This banner's been with me for a decade.

I thought about your MC sign also, I love building shelves in the garage my back wall looks like a gym with shelves. My old garage I built shelves around the edge up high so you could grab stuff while standing in the boat. Whish I still had that garage.

                            your project looks good
