  • 1988 prostar: HELP ME GET BACK ON LAKE!

Last time we took it out last year it ran like a champ. After 5 months, this morning we took it to the lake. It turned over like it should but it never wanted to start. The starter stuck and I promptly killed the battery shutoff. Then it wouldn't turn over. All it did was click. We headed home. I replaced the solenoid and the starter. All that happens is it kills the breaker switch. Nothing turns over, it kills everything. I can get the blower to work and radio but as soon as I hit the key everything blacks out. There's also sound coming out the subwoofers. I didn't really change anything. Any help would be awesome.

uh oh... sounds like it could be hydro-lock. Pull the plugs and see if any water comes out.

Pull all the spark plugs and see if you can turn the motor over by hand.

the plugs look dry. would hydrolock trip the electrical? It's shutting down the entire electrical unit as soon as I think of turning the key. The starter isn't clicking. There's also reverbage when the key is in the ac position now.

Battery's dead. Charge it up and take it to an auto parts store to load test it.

Sounds like you have a dead short somewhere , Start with the battery cables and the ignition switch

Are you sure that the safety lanyard is good?

This may also happen if you accidentally hooked up one of the battery cables backward (reverse polarity). Be sure to check each connection. My old boat had about five connections on each terminal.

Ok, I found it. A burned up ground connector on battery. If I have 2 batteries, not in conjunction. I have a 1 all 2 switch. Do I pair up the negs on the battery? or connect the neg to the positive?

Positive to positive, negative to negative, called a parallel connection. Both batteries should be should be of the same shape and size for best results
