I am not sure I understand what you are getting at here. Are you considering an "upgrade" to the cat exhaust? As far as I know the cat exhaust was required by EPA regulations and it wasn't done for a performance reason. Welcome to the 40th Anniv family!!!
In 2008 the CATS were on the 197's and some people took issue with the added noise level that was produced so I believe for a little while MC was working with owners to add mufflers to help dampen the noise. I can not say whether or not performance was effected with the addition as I did not choose to put them on mine.

No cats in '07. Started in '08. Muffler change was made in '07 with the polished tips and no more "hotdog" muffler. I think the 496 engine remained cat free till the end of its production run.
