  • "and that is when the fight started"

I was up at Bear Lake in northern Utah. My brother was standing on the dock in a barefoot suit ready to start. He gave the signal as the line got tight for me to go and off the dock he went. Jumped up wrapped his feet around the rope and all seemed good. Hit the water and got a little crooked and the rope pulled out of his hand and proceeded to head under his knee. Giving him a pretty good rope burn. The handle was next to make contact with the inner knee. Thought he had broken his knee. He could not even get into the boat. He layed on the swim platform as my we halled *** to the marina. Not obeying the no wake signs. I head to the dock and he is carried up to the ranger station in extreme pain by some cousins. As he is leaving the dock I overhear someone yelling at us for coming in fast but pay no attention to it. The ranger is treating him for the rope burn and he looks out to see my me and another guy going at it on the dock. "and that that is when the fight started" The guy came up to me yelling and screaming and I was telling him we had an injury on board that needed immediate attention. he pushed me and I pushed back. He grabbed me. The Ranger rushes out to break it up. I took the fight quickly to the water as I am a very strong swimmer from college and many ironman competitions. I knew that was the best place for me to be to have an advantage, I was basically treading water while dunking this guy in the drink. He was too busy to try and take a swing at me just staying alive. When the Ranger arrived I let him up and swam to the dock and got out. The guy was soooo pissed off he was yelling and screaming at me and the Ranger. Long story short he was escorted off the property with a ticket for disturbance. The Ranger said entering the marina in that was appropriate in emergency situations. Took bother to the hospital and he will see early next week what the damage is but is at least kind of walking now.

The guy was just pissed because of the wake or did you run over his fishing line or something?

Hope your brother is back at it soon.
If its not a competition ski boat, its always second best.

Rough story. I can't believe someone would have that much of an issue when someone is injured.

I was just up there two weeks ago (first time in 25 yrs) and love the color of that lake. If I squint just right and pretend the water's warm, it's like riding in Jamaica.

I could see where loss of limb, eye sight, or death would force me to operate in a manner I normally would not.

I make it a point to never get into a fight with someone who wrestled in high school or can jump rope for 10 minutes straight.

He was pissed by the no wake. Funny because it is a pure slalom tug and does not put out much wake at speed.

Thats exactly why I went to the water quickly. I knew that was my advantage because I am no fighter. Only 1 person I have met can hold their breath longer than me so even if we went under I was confident that I would prevail. turns out he was not a very good swimmer so I never went under the water. He did though, many, many times, might have been my hand on the top of his head pushing him under too.

Adults who start fights are WT. Good job defending yourself and taking the altercation somewhere that you had the advantage. Smart thinking on your part for sure.

I would've punched him in the throat right off the bat, then watched him grasp for a breath for thirty minutes. Then ask him how'd he like them apples!

I swam and played water polo in college. My plan has always been to take a fight into the water if possible giving me a distinct advantage. Except that might not be the best approach if I end up in a scuffle with SKIBUMM.

That'd be a great way to use deadly force. I wouldn't have escalated to that level. If you were to watch him gasp for breath after a punch to the throat you'd probably want to find someone who can perform a tracheotomy, or possibly an attorney, or both.

Now if you wanted to simply choke him rather than punch him in the throat I couldn't agree more.

As to OP - I hope your brother has a speed recovery. And that was a great way of taking advantage of the situation. Reminds me of the story of someone challenging Abe Lincoln to a fight at a time and place of his choice. Being 6'6" Abe named the place to be under 6' of water. I don't know exactly how the story goes, but that was the gist of how I heard it.

Oh hell no way if you were a water polo player you guys are just plain mean in the water. Water polo is second to rugby as the toughest sport I ever played, scratch that "tried". I knew I was not tough enough for either of them.

Sorry to hear about your brother SKIBUMM, but I can't stop laughing at the cartoon bubble in my head with you pushing this guy back under water. Were you counting out loud each time you dunked him?
