I got Lex @ Rambo to match that price and since Rambo is 1 day ground to me I bought it from them.

I installed the 178 in my 06 X30. Works fine but I really didn't notice any great change in the steering of the boat.

Shape looks the same. I'd PM MYMC, I bet he knows and could give you a good deal.

I have a 2004 Maristar 230 with the old style rudder, and was looking to upgrade to the "new" 2006 larger version part #200162 that everyone says is so much better. In looking for this part, there are indications that rudder part #200178 has replaced #200162. Is there a difference? Has anyone installed the newer rudder #200178?

    06 Rudder on a 2004 Maristar 210 VRS

Very long thread on the advantage of the 06 rudder vs the old rudder. Curious if anybody out there has made this change on the smaller 210 like a 2004 Maristar VRS. Did it make a difference? Thank you for any input you might have.

I'm familiar with the equipment. I had mentioned in a previous thread - my father used to own Lubrimatic among other grease and oil companies, and they used to hold some of the original patents on cartridge-loading grease guns. Their grease gun manufacturing plant was in Spencer, Iowa. The company, Southwest PetroChem, sold out to Witco when my dad retired. IIRC, Witco sold that business again about 10 years ago. I don't know who actually makes the grease now, I think it's Exxon.

What kind of grease to use in the rudder box?

big mac, you are right on the money, just want to add, you need someone to catch the old rudder on the way out and to help put the new one back in from the outside. i put a polished 2004 mc by design s/s in my '89 in fall of '04, and when the old rudder came out the spouse just about didn' catch it, used a bottle jack to put new one in with her guiding it..............coulda done a lot of damage to her, the prop guard or worse.................later

    1wideglide -

I did not get a chance to get down to Portland during the Xmas break. The weather was just horrible. If you have not heard, Seattle has had 26 straight days of rain. I have decided to put this off until the spring. I am still going to do it. I will post pictures when I get it done.

    Prostart205,
Did you install the '06 Rudder and Lenco trim tab?
How did it go? Did you test drive it afterwards?

    MYMC,
Any information regarding the Polished Rudder?

    David

    2001 230

I just ran out to my garage and and cought the same shot. Boy did I just save myself some $$$. I wonder why MC went to the smaller rudders after '01? Anyway, the only thing I would want is a SS rudder in the same size. This might answer the question about the port size on older models.

I've never had any complaints regarding the handling, recognizing it is not a DD boat. It tracks straight, turns easily at low speeds, and while an increase in effort is needed at higher speeds, it's not a struggle. I think it turns a little better to the left than right, but I'm guessing that has something to do with the prop. Honestly, I was a little puzzled by the handling comments I read on the board, but now there seems to be justification as MC has gone retro. I'm just glad I don't have another project to sink $200 into this winter.
