  • X-23 on a 6,000 lb lift?

I'm thinking about getting a X-23, which has a dry weight of 5,500 lbs. I currently have a 6,000 lbs Basta steel lift (model 6060SP) which i just bought less than a year ago so i would have very little appetite to replace it this soon.

With gas/gear the boat could be pushing 6,000 lbs. I could theoretically raise and lower it without people in it. I also know that these lifts are generally rated fairly conservatively.

Would you be comfortable with a X-23 on a 6,000 steel Basta lift?

With just gas, oil, trans oil, and minimum CG required gear, it is already probably 6k+. I am in the same situation as you, with a 6k Lift. I am most likely going to upgrade, especially considering I will probably be running some lead, and carrying the usual amount of cargo. I will probably be pushing 7k on a full tank of fuel.

Dry weights are usually low just for the boat itself. Remember dry weight is usually without any options or accessories. My last boat had a claimed dry weight of 3200 lbs. In lake form it weighed just over 4K. I'm guessing that thing has about a 100 gallon fuel tank, so that alone is going to add 650 lbs. I'd say your going to easily add 1000 lbs to the dry weight if not more. Your not going to be pushing your lift your going to be well over loaded. Not a good position for a brand new 100K plus boat!!

I'm in the same boat as you I have a 6000 lb Basta steel lift for my X-25, which is 1000 lbs. lighter than the X-23. It works just fine. I am tempted by the X-23 but figure I'd have to upgrade my lift. On one hand, I figure the lift's capacity is conservatively rated. On the other hand, with liquids, gear, people on board, I suspect the actual weight of the boat+stuff will come closer to 7000 lbs than 6000.

Wow. A lot of us have 6000 lb capacity lifts and are looking at the X23. I am in the same boat.

I talked with Matt McDevitt at MC last week. He told me that the 5500 lbs is not conservative and that is the heaviest the boat will ever weigh (dry of course). So that is with power tower, tower speakers, heaviest motor, etc.

a full tank of fuel is about 360 lbs. So I am thinking that if you are smart about it and unload people and majority of your cargo you should be fine. I upgraded last year and don't plan on doing it again. I will let you know if my cradle folds!!!

Just upgrade to a 10k lift, and never have weight issues again.

$100k+ boat... I'm sure a lift that can hold it can be worked into your budgets

That would surprise me quite a bit. I weighed my X30 with my gear, and full fuel, and it was almost 6k, without any lead in it. IIRC, it went 7540lbs on the trailer, and the trailer was 1650 empty.

I'm really thinking the X23 is going to be pushing 7k optioned up, and geared up. I will be weighing mine when it comes in....

What do you mean by "gear"?

could you have had 800 lbs of gear?

I am meaning- The options on my X30 seemed to add about 5-600lbs to the published dry weight of the X30. (Heater, Tower speakers, Upgraded ZFT4 Tower, Bimini, Tower lights, Sub, amps, extra ballast pump, etc)

Then you have 400 lbs of fuel, and usually about 300ish pounds of Life jackets, fire extinguisher, flares, emergency tool box, boards, beer, etc..... It doesn't seem like much, but it adds up fast.

I asked several times about this making sure that I was clear that this is the MOST it would ever weight and he answered definitively that it was. That is with all the power tower, speakers, etc.

Why would they give a lower weight and then incorrect information. Direct from mastercraft. Not a dealer that didn't know what he/she was talking about. You would think that would be a major liability issue

It could very well be. I couldn't argue that. It just wasn't the case on my X30, which made me think the X23 would be a similar deal. I will certainly be happy if I don't need to upgrade my lift.

yes, very confusing to say the least. Many lifts can be reinforced as well. I have a call in to the company to see if they can weld some beams on to make it a 7K lift. better than upgrading as I just bought this last year and have no desire to get a new one

plus, 7K would make me feel better necessary or not

That was the other option I considered, and I was also thinking I would install resting latches for the lifted position. (Latches that hold the cradle assembly up, when in the lifted position. This would allow you to release the tension on the cable, and not have to worry about it breaking when you are not around)

I would probably have to Fab my own latch setup.
