I just spoke to Basta and they said that i'll be fine with a 5,500 lb boat + gas/gear with a driver in the boat while raising/lowering the lift. Since i have the 6,000 lb steel lift (vs. aluminum) that provides additional structural strength. It sounds like they build in a sizable "safety" factor into their ratings.

Having said that, i'm still slightly on the fence here. Now thinking about potentially getting a X-20.

When i upgraded my lift less than a year ago, i could've gotten the 7,000 lb lift for only like $500 more. Now it will cost $10K+. Let that be a lesson to anyone getting a new lift - don't cheap out, get a lift that allows for growth. These boats are only getting bigger and heavier...

Did you ask basta if it can be reinforced to a 7K capacity? That would be my next move as opposed to ordering a new lift or getting a different boat. Many lifts can be modified and retain factory warranty

If the price increase was only 500 bucks then likely the "upgrade" is simple. Probably just welded on some support beams and call it 7K

They said that their "LS" models can be upgraded, but that the "SP" models (which is what i have) cannot. You can see all their lifts here - http://www.bastaboatlifts.com/index.php/boat-lifts. It sounds like the "LS" is a brand new line.

They do not get into modifying or reinforcing lifts, but my next step is to talk to the dealer that installed my lift and seeing if they can do any sort of reinforcing.

I talked with the manufacturer of my lift. They are going to modify the cradle and are VERY confident they can mod it to hold 7K.

That should be enough for this monster. should be about 1 grand mod. That is worth it IMO

Don't forget the cable and winch usually have to be upgraded as well...

there is no cable and winch. It is a vertical hydraulic lift. Sweet setup actually and it lifts incredibly fast
