Well, Fellas. I spent the night laying in my boat doing this dang pattern....

Will have it complete tomorrow, and sent back to SeaDek.

Yes, I am patterning the side steps on the hips.
Yes, I am patterning the step on the bow.
Yes, I will tell SeaDek that they can make these patterns publicly available for anyone else with an X23.

Not at all a fun job, but, I am 95% done. Only need to do the bow step tomorrow. Also, I did very large patterns, and overlapped the patterns, so that SeaDek could have 100% perfect alignment and orientation of the panels. This should make for an extremely accurate pattern.

this is awesome!!!! Thank you thank you I will probably only do the hips and the bow step as I ordered my boat with the dekadence flooring which felt very nice under my feet.

FourFourty you're the best!!! I will be VERY interested in the hips and the bow step. Will the seadek stick to those surfaces as they are pebbled from the factory and not smooth?

It should! SeaDek is actually designed to stick to those textured surfaces. 99% of the time, that is what it is being stuck to. (Floors and step areas and such, that are always textured from the factory.

How did you go about making them?

Did you use a compass or something to get the circles and some sort of straight edge for the long lines?

^ Wanted to use a compass for the curves, but the sheet is really slippery. It was too hard to keep the compass anchored on the pivot point (without poking it into the floor).

I just took my time and carefully drew it by hand. However, I did use a straight edge for the long straight sections.

Man Im jealous. When I test drove an X23 the dealer I test drove with warned me to stay away from Seadek because they didn't have much success with the material sticking to the floor. Idk if maybe they didn't prep right or they didn't use glue but they said it was cause due the textured floor and water would get underneath the material. I opted to go with the deckadance flooring. However I will be interested in do this on the side hips and bow.

Yeah, my biggest worry about doing this is sand and stuff getting up under the edges. I think the seadek has self adhesive backing on it so I'm not sure other glues are needed/helpful in keeping it down.

I would think that if entire perimeter isn't sealed down sand would work in there and after time would destroy the bond from the underside.

I'm at a cross-roads right now as my carpet is almost 10 years old and I'm looking to replace it. I like the look and feel of seadek but I'm a little worried about durability and adhesion. I wish there were more people with long term use with textured surfaces to draw conclusions from.

My carpet was toast too.
We just put the Teak Look down last night in the X-2
You must clean the surface well, don't cheat.
The wipe with acetone to get all wax etc OFF
This stuff is pull your skin off sticky.
After its Down where you want it for ever, press down with your hands and thumb everywhere to ensure contact.

Finally press down the edge of each piece all the way around to ensure it won't lift or get dirt/water underneath.

Don't pressure wash the floor. But you can spray and scrub.
I cleans up great if your are in a sandy area a lot.

CorrectCraft has been running it for about 4 years now. I haven't heard of very many problems with it. Those guys certainly rave about the stuff.


That said, my buddy had some issue with the SeaDek in his '13 G23. I believe it wasn't prepped correctly at the factory. Most of it is perfect, but there was a small panel or two that he had trouble with. I think they probably didn't clean off the mold wax well enough at the factory in those areas.

His floor is certainly textured under the SeaDek though, as are all Nautiques I believe. I was under the assumption they were smooth, until I saw what was under the panels in my friends G. It makes sense, because the SeaDek is only optional in the G series. Carpet is standard, and you need that textured surface under the carpet. (Keeps carpet in place, and for safety when the carpet is removed.)

Also, speaking of templates for the X-23... I'm having Evolution Covers template my X-23 the first week of March. So if you want a cover that's a lot nicer and fits better than the factory cover you can give Cory at Evolution Covers a call at (425) 478-2043 and he can crank one out for you.

If I go the seadek route I'd use a professional wax remover like Prep-sol or Prep-all to clean the surface. After the initial install I'd follow up with something like a contact cement roller.
