  • 98 Maristar 225VRS project

Hi guys, today my buddy Hammer helped me find and purchase a 98 225VRS. Thanks Hammer, U R D Man.

I have a project thread started elsewhere, this thread is for 2 immediate questions I have to get this in the water. we ran the engine on dry dock and the seller warned us about a guage issue described below, any help is appreciated!

    1. The Temp gauge will run at the correct temp and then suddenly spike to full overheat, putting the boat in limp mode. But the engine is not overheated. the PO thinks it has something to do with the ignition switch. Hammer thinks a ground or sensor, anyone see anything like this?

    2. Side window is shattered, I will need a new one. I have a glass guy that's a buddy and he said there is a polymer type window I can put in place for cheap but would much rather have glass. Where can I find one... internet searches haven't worked so far.

    1. I'm not familiar with the LT1, but if the engine is going into Limp mode, the ECU thinks the engine is overheating (and it doesn't look at the gauge). As I remember, the ECU has a different temperature sensor in a different location than the gauge does. If both the gauge and the ECU are showing an issue, then I think there's a more serious problem.
    2. Your best bet on the side window is waiting to find someone parting out a '98, or find and call around to boat salvage yards. There's no good way to find a new one.

Make sure the LT1 has the over heating fix. There is a steam tube that needs to be on the front not the back side of the engine. Do a search on here for LT1 overheating or post pics of the motor and we can help determine if it has the fix.

Thanks guys, we are prolly going to hook it up to a hose and let it warm up... see whats happening and when. May go ahead and change the impeller for kicks and giggles. I will look for that post Jake.

Heres the only pic i have now.

So as others have said its not a great situation on the window. Shoot me which window it is. Please say its the rear side portion. I have the remainder of 2 windows in my garage (hopefully in 1 piece) due to a similar problem that I literally drove 2 states to pick up from cheif. The company that made the glass sucks, won't provide you any service, and will want several thousand dollars only offering the entire windshield as an option. You can also go plexi or if the piece is flat you can have a glass shop custom make it which is a better option. Let me know what you are looking for though. I'm local to you if you are near hammer so it wouldn't hurt to compare.

It is the side triangle piece. On the port side. I can take a couple measurements to see if its close to what you have. That would be awesome. I'm not sure how close the X2 glass is in size.

It is rear pass side, I have a glass guy that said he would help with a plexi if needed. Here is a picture, if you have it for this boat let me know how much you would like for them.

This wasn't off the X2. These are windshields I bought when I had a christmas box fall through the 209. Believe 1 section was off a 205 and one was off cheifs 00' 190. The 209, 190, etc were all compatible except for the center flip up so this maybe the ticket. I just have to see if its port or star

Was this picked up in Raleigh? Saw the listing and thought it was too good to be true

I think that is the right link to the long LT1 cooling issue.
