Go Surf Assist Thread

Hi All-

I thought since several on here have already bought these or are getting them soon it might be a good idea to start a Go Surf Assist thread so we can share our experiences and compare notes.

I think we will be seeing a whole lot more of these as it appears WakeMakers has picked up the line also -> http://www.wakemakers.com/wavecontrol.

We installed ours last week (my original write up is here) and it was an awesome day. Ryan and his wonderful wife had a wedding in Savannah so they came by to install for me and stayed a couple of days on their way. My favorite board maker - Mark Werbenec from Lakewakes came to hang for the day too (we all bought new boards!). So with my favorite wake people and my favorite board people there to ride with me, I was in Surf Heaven.

We did my controls install in a different spot than Murphy's as my three little ones would've had a hay day with the accessible buttons and dial (the buttons are really cool) - after much debate, I talked Ryan into letting me put it in the oval impression behind the radio remote. The faceplate wouldn't fit there so I went without it - but I think it still looks great and they are readily accessible to my throttle hand.

It took about a half a day to install and then we rode for the second half. I was blown away by the improvement to my wake. We rode with 750s in each rear locker and about 250-300 lbs under the seats on each side. The height, push, and length of the wake was way more than I expected.

In fact, the people that normally ride with me came out this past weekend to ride. They asked me to take out some ballast as it was too big (personally I don't think a surf wake can ever be too big). I think my set up going forward will just be 1100s in each rear locker. Even though I cannot fill them completely full, I can still get about 200 lbs more in each of them than the 750s and that way I won't have to fill bags under seats - and it is all automated then so I can drain / fill as the rider wants.

I experimented some with it last weekend and learned that you do not want to weight the bow in my hull. I had 4 people (about 500 - 600 lbs total) move from the back of the boat to the bow and the wake instantly went to mush. Ryan had told me that was what the center wake plate was for and he was right.

The net result is this - the board I am on in that video, I could not ride on my old boat or on this boat without Go Surf Assist. When I tried to ride it before I was always burying the nose as my stance was way forward and all my weight was on my front foot trying to keep up. Now my rear foot is back on the kick plate and I can keep my weight balanced or back and easily stay in the pocket. It is a HUGE improvement and the best money I've spent in a long time.

Awesome pictures and videos. How far back were you able to ride and still recover? Do you run any weight in the ski locker?

I've been trying to get a system on my '04 X2, but it's not quite available way up north yet. I hope to be able to get a system soon.

Homec we can ride about 20' back and still recover. I run full stock ballast + 1500 -2000 lbs. Stock ballast includes KGB (500 lbs), which is where ski lockers once were.

The only thing missing now is for someone to develop a product that can turn a surf boat into the ultimate slalom boat... and with recreational water sport boats reaching $170k is it too much to ask for one that can do it all?

Not really. Didn't drag his product through the dirt. The wake gate didn't work the way it was supposed to. There's a reason he stopped making it and moved to this system. Ryan and I worked it out. Enough said.

I talked to the guys at wakemakers they seem pretty pumped for the release they also filled me in on the control system and they are definitely thinking for the future.

Hey guys. I'm interested in hearing feedback/input on the control system from users/owners. Please only comment if you have used it. I get plenty of arm chair design assistance from the forums already 😉

I think it just doesn't deeply the tab until you get up to 8mph or some set speed.
