X23 Surf Wave- Worth it?

I think it is pretty unanimous that the X23 surf wave is probably the best wave out there. I have a 2014 X-30 with Gen 2 and 2,900 pounds of ballast and I have been behind four different X-23’s, all of which were stock, and all had better waves than mine… and, in my opinion, the X-30 is top 3 or 4 waves I have ever ridden.
If you haven’t ridden behind the X-23 and are merely looking at photos and videos…don’t assume that you can tell how good the wave is by comparing its shape and size to other pictures. While the shape and size is impressive, you cannot describe/capture the amount of push the X-23 wave has in a picture. I get behind a lot of boats that have a wave that looks good, but it’s soft and lacks push especially once you get further back and I quickly start to miss my own boat. Whether that extra wave is worth the extra money to you or not, it all depends on who you are. $100k is a drop in the bucket for some people. It would probably cost me $30-40k to get an X-23 and I am not doing that anytime soon. It would be a stretch financially for me, and I rather go on vacation, buy some other toys, or just not work as hard, rather than having a little nicer wave. At this point, it is not my wave holding back my surfing ability.
As far as the finance thing goes, I understand people’s hesitation about financing a depreciating asset, but as we have seen…anything can be a deprecation asset, your house, your retirement… at 1.9%, that is cheap money, and as long as you take your cash and invest it in something that returns more than 1.9% you are money ahead by financing. I personally rather finance “toys” than things that I actually need, cuz if the S#%* hits the fan…the bank can come get my “toys” but I will still have a roof over my head and a way to get to work. You just don’t want to be upside down in your toys, so if you need to, you can sell them and at least break even. The question is not whether life exists after death, but whether you were alive before death - Osho

If surfing is your favorite thing to do (or one of your favorites), is the X23 worth the extra money?
I can get a decent wave with my X25. However, I'd like an easier to obtain, more predictable, no bags on seats and in the isle if at all possible, wave.
If you still need sacks on the floor in an X23 than I'll stay with my X25.
Its a big jump in cash for me and I'd like to hear from the pro's what you think.

We are running with the stock X30 Gen2 set up - no bigger or extra ballast bags. I was able to easily go ropeless for the first time. Our old boat did not have a ballast system and we were using just one Eight.3 1100 bag in the rear locker and I could never feel the push. If anything, the X30's Gen2 push takes some getting used to since you have to put on the brakes or you will be sitting on the platform (at least for a novice like me).

Back to the finance vs cash discussion... We got a 2.75% loan for 5 years at our credit union which will cost a little over $3000 in finance charges - that is an average of $600/year or $50/month (obviously front loaded).
Now, everyone has their opinion on this, but to me that is a no brainer to have the boat our family wants. As long as you are being financially responsible for your family, including investing aggressively for retirement, I look at it as entertainment cost and the great times we will have using the boat are absolutely worth it.
If you have the means, it is a great time to take advantage of these low interest rates.

I hate the boat financing discussion. Cash or financed it never makes financial sense. Neither does eating out, buying new cars, golfing, Paying my cable bill, or 1000 other expenses. (give me back my flip phone - who needs an iphone especially when I've broken a bunch and paid full price to replace them) For me, I've owned boats paid in cash, and financed others. Sometimes what boating brings to me is priceless.
My ex-wife and I chose to buy a boat with a payment a while ago. We couldn't afford cash, could afford the payment, and had some times on that boat that are life memories. I hear she is in a very grave situation. Making the most prudent financial decision comes with some trade-offs. As long as one can pay their bills, I'll never judge how they spend their money. Just my $.02Prior boats - (3) X14's, (3) Prostars, and a Tristar.
