My old supply line was actually in the front (relative to the boat) of the engine on top. It's hard to tell location on your picture, but I believe you are on the back of the engine there.

Did you see what your engine temperature was when your heater wasn't working well? When you have it running off a hose, it takes a while for the engine to warm up since you're supply water is so cold.

Agreed. My 2012 has never been more than "warm".

Temp is definitely not the issue in my set-up. My engine runs at 170, which is consistent with what my manual shows. My last 197 ran at 135 or 140 and the heater from that boat (Indmar engine) was twice as warm easily.

Didn't MC switch from HeaterCraft to someone else? My old one had a HeaterCraft system and it was very warm.

Yes, but that isn't the issue. Heaters are pretty darn simple. Hot water runs through, warms the mini radiator, and the fan blows the warmth of the radiator out.

            FWIW I purchased a HeaterCraft.

              Bad,

My bad...I thought I had a picture of the supply. Whoops. Anyway, my supply line is where you describe - top of motor toward the front.

When running off the hose I was actually able to get it up to temp at idle. The t-stat cycled several times and the temp would go up and down between 130-160. Odd that when I winterized I couldn't get temp above 140 deg. for the oil change.

The weather hasn't been kind and my one daughter is recovering from an emergency surgery so no opportunity to get the boat in the water to give it a good run. Last Fall I thought the heater actually did ok as long as you were running with power. Idle just blew cold at you.

Again, glad to see more info on this thread.

              Chris

Stopped by my dealer today, and it turns out having a lukewarm heater seems to just be something we have to deal with. I confirmed the hoses I hooked to were correct, and I could see that new boats now use a small pump to try and circulate warm water through the heater.

However, the guys at the shop said results have been mixed, and it is likely not worth the cost to try and add the pump for perhaps another 5 degrees or so.

All I can think is that this is an Ilmor 5.7L circulation issue, as the Indmar engines produced tremendous flow/heat even with a 140 thermostat.
