  • 2012 (ish) Mastercraft owner question

How dependable has your 2012 x25, x30, x15 been? I'm shopping for boats and would like to stay in the 60's (bottom half, if possible) and I have found a few boats that I like that are close enough that someone might bite in November. I have also shopped a brand new Moomba Mojo that is perfect cost wise but .. its a moomba.

I test drove the moomba and I'll admit, they've done a pretty good job on this boat. Its no frills but has tons of space and 2500# stock ballast does well both surf and wakeboard (for my levels at least). I also liked the way the 6.2L ran and love the closed cooling. I was most impressed with getting a wave at 15mph that my five year old can wakeboard across thats NOT washed out. I have kids 5, 7, 9. We ride 50% wakeboard, 40% surf + 10% tube.

I get a 5 yr warranty on everything from Moomba which is great. Even if it does break, there isn't anything complicated about fixing it. I'm coming from a 2003 x30.

Frankly that big touch screen has me scared since everything is electronic. If this argument was electronics but has a warranty vs. manual and no warranty .. I'd be MC all day, but its the other way around.

    Advise?

I'd consider the nxt if you're looking new also. Saw a 22 in the showroom when winter unsung mine. Think dealer said around 75.

Sure someone will chime in but from what ive heard there were problems with 12 screens for a little while. Supposedly fixed with new software updates. Different hardware in 11 and 13 with less complaints.

Frankly I'm in the same boat (pun kinda intended) as you man. I'm having trouble finding things not to like about the Mojo and I can't find any other boat with surf tabs that's that big for the money, and without the fancy electronics which I don't want to deal with. Been looking and you can swap the bags for 1100s and getting a bigger wake too, so it should be plenty for my level. That reversible seating is also clutch and can't find a boat under 100k with it. I know it's not MC quality but I can't afford the difference at this point.

My gripe about the NXT: I just can't get past the butt ugly tower; not to mention the bimini.

Avoid 2012s. Don't think a single boat manufacture had a decent touch screen in 2012

I am in Aric's camp. Family member owns 2012 X25. Reliability as far as everything non touch screen related, absolutely outstanding. He loves the Ilmore very very smooth and responsive. Vinyl has been flawless.

Ballast pumps, tab deployment , and touch screen issues plagued the boat since day one. Took over 18mos to get that all squared away. He and I ended up hard wiring ballast pumps switches direct just to get that squared away. You're going to hear people say software updates have solved a lot of issues , but software and ekectronics change constantly. Do a system that only had a one model year run that would scare me on the longevity side. Tower has been rock solid and the boat looks sick.

Having kids who ride myself I would eliminate the X25 right off the top. The wakeboard wake is awesome for good riders, but will intimidate the crap out of newbs. Especially the kiddos. And forget towing them at low speeds and having a clean wake. I'd be looking 2011 X10 or maybe find an x30 in ther.e at your high end. Those wakes for boarding and surfing are way more family friendly but still have advanced capabilities.

The Axis T22 in the new boat realm would have my eye as well as the Mojo. The Axis T22 and 23 were a new design for them that took a lot of the "cheapness" feel out of them when it first launched. Axis has since modeled the A20 and A22 revamps after a lot of feedback on the T series design. I still think I take a couple year old X10 unless I was strictly 100% wakeboarding.

Echo what swat says. Here's a 2012 x25 with 3 people in it and no weight at all. Think I was pulling him at 21.5 or so.

75k is higher than I will pay and that tower is (as GoneBoatN stated) butt ugly.

I don't care about the reversible seating but the simplicity of everything is nice. Definitely not MC quality but neither is the cost. The boat I demo'd had the manual flow and I think I would prefer the auto flow. We only filled the tanks about half full b/c it was still in the break in period but I could see it change the wave. Sadly I was more looking to see how small of a wave it could produce vs. large on this outing b/c of the kids. I guess I assumed the wave would be fine for my intermediate skills based on the reviews.

That's what I'm finding. Malibu also had issues in 2012 it seems.

swatguy / MC25 - Good call .. maybe the x25 is my next boat when the kids reach the teen years !!

I'm afraid the x10 isn't big enough but maybe I will take a look.

Don't get me wrong, I love my 25 but I ride at 23.6 mph with 3500#s. Which lead to my knees telling me no lol.

MC25 - I get where you are coming from appreciate the advice.

Also starting to look at Gen2 equipped X10s. Slightly smaller but probably pretty equivalent to my old x30 b/c they have gotten better with space utilization.

If the firmware updates have been done, the 2012s are fine. I own one, and while it took some time, the boat is perfect now.
