1st off...thank you to all the regular posters here. I've gained a lot by reading this forum. All of that is due to the folks on here who take the time to share what they know...
I've been looking for a boat for about 2 years. I've looked at just about every type, tritoons, I/o bow riders, and finally inboards/vdrives. It took me going to my brother and sister in laws' place last summer for me to decide on a type of boat. We surfed which was awesome. But more importantly both my college aged nephews came up to the lake and we're happy to be there...with family. I decided that maybe if I had some cool toys my kids would voluntarily come spend the weekend with us when they get to be my nephews' age.
I started out looking at different wake/surf boats. I really tried to find a good used boat. But honestly, I don't know a lot about boats, or really what they should cost. To me buying something off craigslist was just going to be a way to get screwed. It took me one trip to our local Mastercraft dealer and I was hooked. Compared to the other brands I was looking at, quality and finish in the Mastercrafts was just better. It took me one more trip and a test ride to put down a deposit for a new boat. Honestly, if I would have been reading this forum regularly I might have picked up one of the great boats that have come up this season over in the classifieds section. But, maybe not. The Mastercraft dealer in our area is new to the brand. I was a little hesitant at first. I'm not a fan of dealerships in general and I really don't like it when people try to sell me stuff. That being said, I feel like this is probably the best experience I've had in buying a big item. I dealt with the owner, he was great, gave me a fair price with no bs. If you are in the southeast or are willing to travel I would highly recommend Skiers Marine. I don't know about service work but from a buying experience standpoint, I have had a great experience.
As for the weekend with our new boat..., it has been great. It would have been excellent if the weather would have cooperated better. It's been windy and cooler here (I would say cold but our nothern members may get me banned). But too cold to get in the water. The boat was flawless when I got it. Unfortunately I put the tower down with the racks still out, so its not flawless anymore. To quote Monty Python..."it's just a flesh wound". Also with 15-20 mph winds, I did get a few rub rail scratches. But, I figure it could have been worse....
