  • Minimum running depth

Whats the shallowest water you're comfortable running your boat in? I get nervous in anything below 15. A friend of mine only makes adjustments when the depth finder hits 6. I was curious to what you guys thought?

6 feet is OK for me to start. I was amazed at how water depth impacts the effectiveness of the gen 2 tabs for surfing. You need to see at least 15ft on the depth finder for a good wave. There is a shallow spot were we surf and with gen1 you could surf there on the x30. With the gen2 tabs you would need the rope to make it. It must be some type of ground effect.

4.5 but thats because I know my lake - if I was at a new lake it would be way higher in case of submerged objects, poorly marked shallow spots etc.

You guys obviously don't boat on a river.

Our river has a spot that we have to go across that's 3 feet. Can't avoid it but I try not to have ballast in the boat at that time and no riders can fall in that spot so we don't have to get off plane.

Rivers are a pain. Currents, tides, shallow spots, flotsam and jetsome make river boating a challenge.

But with a serious lack of lakes in the area the river is the only option for me.

I've idled through 2' on my 03 x2. Anything under 10 will definitely affect the surf wave. 15+ and surf wave seems fine. There's several areas that we go through that are only 5 ft deep, but I know there are no stumps or other obstructions there.

I know my lake, so 3' here. A lot more cautious every where else though.

I would assume he meant feet.

Ah yeah 2' vs 2" is close to a typo.

20' we are on Pend orielle. Typically 180-220 where we hang out. There's a few bays at 14-16. That makes me nervous.

Last lake I lived on was average of 12ft

Current one I live on is average of 7.

I'm on lake Travis it's the same here, 150plus just about everywhere, I get concerned when I'm anywhere under 30. Problem of being in such a deep lake is, when you go some where new you get lazy on keeping an eye on depth or overly cautious.
