He should be careful about the trailer--finding a used Mastercraft trailer for this boat will be extremely difficult and a new one will cost him half the price of the boat. I would suggest hunting down the trailer first then negotiating the price to take into account the cost of the trailer. Given the work this boat needs and the cost of the trailer, he will have a lot into this before he is done.

What can he buy it for? $6k? $8500 is too much IMO.

"not much to repair" is not a good description of that vinyl... It's trash and need completely replaced..

No kidding... and vinyl isn't exactly a DIY job.

In perfect condition I'd say a '95 205 could bring as much as 15k in May, but a good usable one more like 12-13k. I'll admit I am pretty partial to the '95 205's out there and would enjoy seeing another saved.

                      5k for boat
                      3k for interior
                      2k for other misc bs

So he's in it for 9-10k, id say fixed up its gotta be worth 12-13k all day. Probably not a bad deal if he can get it for 5 and all of the running gear is in working condition. Granted that takes into consideration him buffing and replacing decals and other odds and ends on his own.

I'd say his biggest concern needs to be the motor/transmission, thats where he will blow money if he discovers problems after he purchases it. There's not a ton of electronics on these boats otherwise, atleast not things that he couldn't do on his own if hes mechanically inclined.

Sounds about right. BrianM has a pristine '97 w/ LT1 and the right colors for sale for $15,750. That should be a good benchmark. Bringing the OP back to life with a good restore puts it in the $12K range.

"but won't take much to repair vinyl"

If he's serious, I can go take a look. If he's really serious, I'll drag it home from Lawson and keep it in my driveway, will pick him up from the KC airport (5 mins from my house), and help him get a rental vehicle to get it home.
