Hey guys, I'm getting ready to starting training for the Nautique Wakesurf National Championship. I would really like to have some sponsors going into that competition.

Surfing has explosively grown wake sports, and as good and bad as some people may think that is, it sells boats. Get with the dealership, teach for awhile, find an I/O owner who’s never thought about an onboard, teach him to surf (assuming he buys a boat) the dealership will be forever greatful to you. Also, to my point about industry connections, no one just ‘goes to a boat company, gets sponsored’. You have to know people, have connections, and the best way to do that is spending time on the water getting to know people.
That’s what it’s all about anyway, sharing the love of the sport and helping people discover it.

Surfing, while I thoroughly enjoy it, is barely a "sport". Whether you like slalom or not you have to be in some incredible shape to be competitive in the pro circuit. I'd say the same about wakeboarding. Surfing..... not so much.
A lot of good advice on starting the process to get sponsored. Not sure of your age but working at a dealership goes a long way in building a relationship with a potential sponsor. Most of the dealer sponsored riders I'm aware of are either teaching at the dealers schools or working in the Pro Shop if they're still in school. Just like the professional sports businesses want someone that will be a positive influence on their current and potential customers. Now would be a great time to try and land a summer job and with it a shot at sponsorship;.
