  • Best Option for TV at New Lake House

We will be closing on our new lake house this week and are wondering what y'all think is the best option for TV at the lake. We pretty much are forced to Dish, Direct or streaming.

The best internet provider is "up to 25 mbps". Can this speed support several phones and 2-3 hdtvs?

I've heard that there is a way to have one of the satellite serves at our home and move a couple of boxes to the lake (approx 100 miles apart). That way only one bill for two locations (of course fees for extra boxes).

Any suggestions / thoughts will be appreciated.

Yes, you should be just fine with a 25 MBps speed. My current home runs around 17 MBps and runs the following:
New Dish Hopper 3 (Don't get the standard Hopper)
    Dish Joey
    Amazon Fire box TV (2)
    Sonos streaming music
    3 laptops
    3+ phones

    At the Lake:
    I think I'm around 10 MBps
    8 Camera survellence system
    2 TV's
    Older Dish Network box
Stream through either Netflix or Amazon
runs about 90% of the time OK.

    TV's
Just say a story on "Smart TV's" and how each brand shares data. Samsung and LG are not as secure. Sony is better on data security.

Sony 930e TV's are very nice.

Not to jack the thread, but what does anyone suggest for a patio tv? And what do you use to secure it and keep dry? Pics would be appreciated

We have dish network at our main home. We connect a PC to the TV at the lake house and then use dish anywhere on the PC. That gives us full access to all of our channels and recordings w/o an increase in our dish bill.

I would be interested if any one has been able to get their second residence to act as it is on the same network as the main residence? That would allow access to media server, etc from both locations

I had just a normal cheaper Visio out on the patio. My parents had bought some TV cover for it and it’s still working great after a few years of living outdoors.

I too am interested to see if it's possible to utilize home system at the lake.

If you use an older lartop are you able to maintain full HD quality?

No, not all of them at the exact same time. But they are all connected, and a good handfull of them could be used at the same time.

I know a lot of snowbirds have one satellite account and are able to switch locations when they travel south. This is all done legally with their satellite provider.

To use a satellite account simultaneously at two locations is not legal (you need two accounts). That said, I know some people who have done it. Not sure how they did, but I'm sure there is info on the internet...

Its a Lake House! You don't need TV!!!!! Use rabbit ears!

We have the most basic cable available at the lake house and that suffices. No internet, just cell phone hotspots.
                            OH-IO!

You don't even need a TV set! Nights at the lake house should consist solely of Card/Drinking games, maybe throw in a ping pong or pool table.
