We moved to streaming direct to now. Best thing we ever did, but you have to have an internet connection, but we needed that anyway for cameras and Nest connections.

We are really happy with Dish … on the Internet side, I had Hughes but recently went with ViaSat … seems that ViaSat is much better to me in speed, install experience and even the in-home router device they installed.

    My $0.02.

Why do you need a VPN? Are you tunneling back to your main home?

Thanks for the recommendations. Incidentally, what VPN would you choose for Netflix? I've never used such services before. My colleagues advised me to try out the best vpn mac for this. But I'm not sure if this is a decent option.

Dish anywhere is LEGAL and provide by the satellite provider. The speed of the internet controls the quality of picture much more so than does the age of the computer. I would suggest using a computer that is new enough that it has an HDMI connector (of any of the sizes). That will allow you to connect to an a/v receiver or directly to the TV.

Has anyone done anything with a consumer grade VPN or tunnel to allow network connectivity between the two residence?
Thanks for all of the ideas... I think that we will be changing our home service to Dish and utilizing the Dish Anywhere service as well.

    Any ideas???

We do the same thing here! Also watch F1 races that we record on Sunday afternoon at the boathouse

This! Your devices aren't going to be pulling a great deal of data when they are idle. 25Mbit should be plenty. This would allow you about 4 simultaneous streams on netflix in HD. If you are planning on having a ton of people at your house, the thing you need to do is a decent router to handle the traffic.

As for a TV, I really like the reviews at rtings.com. They do a great job.
