X10 Surf & WB Set-up - Help!

2 weeks into my new x10 and still trying to dial in my set up for Surfing and WB.

Surf wake def seems to shift every time I'm out so far. Full bags (2 rears lockers 500lb ea/1 front 660lb) with Star and Center tab down yesterday and it honestly produced the biggest wake to date (No lead in boat). Could have just been the extra weight of my dad (220lbs) in the boat along with my family (wife and 3 younger boys) but was completely diff from Sat's wake (me, wife and 2 friends). Any advice on how to make the most constant ride with largest wake? What is working for you guys??


As for WB I absolutely cant get my Star side wake to clean up. Just rolling dirty water. What set up do you recommend to get best ride on both sides with tallest walls?

Replied to your PM. Get the 820 lb Wakemaker bags and 250 lbs lead. Below basic surf setup thread link, in order of priority (1) slam the stern with heaviest crew member sitting surf side corner to create size and shape, then (2) place other crew amidships or in bow to lengthen wave. When fully ballasted at rest, our wood swim deck is nearly calf deep with water level above the stern eyes. X10 is sensitive to crew and weight placement but makes her easier to dial once you figure it out.

Best way to clean up WB wake is a bit more weight or crew member placement on the side of the boat that is washed out - in your case starboard weight would help clean the starboard wake lip. We have the opposite issue of a washy port side if I’m running light crew WB, it then helps for the captain to stand in the middle of the decks and steer standing up to clean up the port side.

Agree with Moose, and the thread below is very informative. I'm running the 820s and some lead midship and in the bow. Wave is huge and clean, although we mostly surf port. Good luck.

Surf Wave: first let’s start with being consistent with the setup. We almost always start the day with a full tank of fuel since it acts as a form of ballast. Ballast is set to an approximate 40% front (below windshield and bow seats) and 60% rear (rear lockers and rear bench seat). The rest of the cabin seating should evenly sink the boat keeping the front to rear hull angle at the desired plane. You will need to position people in the cabin to balance the starboard to port side. A slight list to the surf side is OK and much of the time desirable. If the wave is too washed out, you most likely have too much rear weight and not enough in the bow. Correct this distribution by moving a person from the rear bench to the bow and have them sit on the rider side. (Lead weight really helps to provide flexibility to your passenger seating. The more lead positioned up front, the less critical the cabin seating becomes. We use 400# of lead up front at all times.) Gen 2 tabs start with the stock mellow surf settings. We ride with the tab opposite the rider anywhere from 50% - 80%. Keep the middle tab at 0% if possible. You may need up to 20% middle tab to get up to and maintain your surf speed if your weight distribution is too heavily weighted to the rear. We engage Auto Launch when weighted heavily, but it is not mandatory, especially with the lead up front. You can independently add middle tab with your manual switch located under your throttle. The last boat related variable is the Murphy screen. Ensure your ballast is completely full by visually seeing water exit all three of your through hull vent ports and eyeballing your rear locker bags. Use the manual switches to override the ballast timers until water exits through your overflow ports on all three vents. You can adjust your timers if they are off in the User Settings. After selecting the Mellow rider profile you want, and activating it, switch the Murphy screen to Cruise by pushing the lower right hard key. This will give you the ability to incrementally adjust your surf speed while you have a surfer in tow. Your mellow setting will start you out at 10.8 mph and you can adjust from there. We ride between 11.0 - 11.5. The more weight in the boat, the faster you will want to go to stretch out the pocket of the wave. If you are having trouble holding or getting up to surf speed, add a little center tab. When you get the wave you want, save it to a new profile by going back to Profiles via the Hard Keys and selecting New on the bottom of the screen. This will become your new surf profile. You will need to do this for each side. Your tabs and speed most likely will be a little different for each side. Hope this helps you get more consistency in the wave behavior behind your boat.

Hunter - both of those pics are the "Mellow" setting on the Gen2 profiles, and it helps that the water is over 100 feet deep (better wave), and the rider is 103lbs (just to be fair). I weigh 190 though and I can get well beyond my surf rope on a 4'8 board all day. I'd suggest 150-200 up front to start and see what you think. I agree 100% that weight up front helps make the wake more consistent too, as it puts more hull in the water. We carry the LeadWake bags, but you could always use a human if they promised not to talk too much or touch the radio.

I ran my X10 with Stock Gen2, plus 500lbs of lead. I placed 100lbs under each rear corner seat, 100 lbs in the port coffin seat, 100lbs in each side of the bow as forward as possible.

We usually had a light crew, but the surf wave was alway better with two additional adults. We usually surfed on mellow as we liked the length and felt we had plenty of steepness.

For wakeboarding, we would run it full, same weight at 21.5MPH and it was clean and big. If there was ever any difference in side, we just shifted passengers to balance out the weight. The boat is a little sensitive to weight placement, but it is great once you balance it out. We would typically just move a 50lb kid around to fix it. Should also mention, if only adult in the boat was the driver, I would drop 20% out of the starboard rear to even it out.

Should also mention we had the 5.7L and ran the OJ815 prop.

820s will make it easier for you and others to learn. they are easy to add and an awesome inexpensive upgrade. you just keep the stock settings for the tabs and increase your drain and fill times.

i put 175 hours on my x10 with 820s. i never ran lead in the bow, i did have two anchors and other gear. putting a 150 - 200 lb person up there did not change the wave much IMO, but the RPMs dropped by 600 or so. i was just too lazy to go buy lead and haul it down to the lake ha.


this is not hyperbole. with a small crew, the x10 with 820s has a much much better wake than my stock x23.

After seeing what an additional single 540 lb bag did For my surf wave I will definitely be ordering the 820's, only problem right now is wakemakers doesn't have any and can't provide an estimated availability

Been following the thread as I have the Wakemakers kit as well (2014 X10) and love the wave. We found, while surfing last night, that our port bag has separated from the seam and the connector piece. I’ll try to snap a photo next time we are out, but it’s not as simple as a patch due to where the seam has essentially become unfused to the plastic piece where the connector goes. We thought of maybe rigging a flange of some sort until the get more bags in stock but wanted to see if anyone here has any idea to get me over until WM is stocked ... pic for attention
