By "Kangaroo effect", I'm assuming porpoising? That's not unique to the 20. Our X23 is terrible about it. Makes zero difference where weight distribution is in the boat also. 45%-50% center tab at cruising speed 100% takes care of it though, just always have to remind my self and usually after it has already started the bounce.

I edited my "go home" profile to include a 50% tab, and normally activate that profile whenever I run to prevent the porpoising (at least us a water mammal). I find trying to hit the tabs button while driving can be a bit dangerous, it's awkwardly placed underneath the throttle and when you are bouncing around it can be a bit tough to hit and not be distracted.

I've been pretty amazed by how sensitive the hull of the X23 is. I use center plate to prevent the porpoise, but I also find, even at cruise, that moving people around the boat is sometimes necessary to prevent a list. Even a 100 pounds can make a difference.

Given the recent commentary about how finicky the X23 wave setup can be from several TT members, along with the above porpoising descriptions, wondering how the new gen boats hulls compare specifically the X22, X24, XStar?

In a thorough demo outing on the new XStar there was none of the above. In fact, some of the larger crew members were sitting opposite of surf corner and the switchover ballast did its job still setting up the boat for a bit of surf corner list and a proper wave. We literally moved no crew throughout the day. Zero porpoising.

Do the new wakeboats have flatter rear hulls vs. the deep V extending aft on the X23? Is the switchover tank that effective?

I don't find that my boat porpoises that much when underway. Only when I have a full crew and everyone is sitting in the rear or I'm draining ballast do I experience this.

I ended up buying lead wake because I to found that just 100 lbs can make a big difference and this helps from people having to move around like that.

But to be honest, this occurs in every deeper V boat. The 26ft center console we have right now rolls when people move side to side, however, trim tabs can be used to get it level. GEN2tabs cant be used to level the boat so we have to use weight.

I must say the x23 is so finicky, much more than my x10. I am constantly telling people where to sit to maximize the surf wave, it gets old. Also, we're surprised at how small the stock wave is with just 2 people in the boat.

I really do need to get some lead, but putting an extra semi permanent 500-750 lbs in the far stearn will only make it porpoise more. the x23 needs about 1000 lb more of stock ballast

the dealer's top sales guy was talking to an engineer at the release of the x24. apparently they went back to the drawing board on the x24 after seeing how awesome the surf wave on the star was.

I bet the x22 is the sweet spot.

When I go out surfing with 2 or 3 people I take a 750 Fly high and set it on the floor in the back. That, with the 300lbs of lead I have work really well.

Last night went out with 8 adults. It was sick and no fly high needed.

                X22 Thread Jack Time!!

what I miss most about my x10 and the 820s. no need to screw around filling bags and having them on the floor or seats.

I'm hoping the x22 can pump out a sweet stock wave with small crew.

What tab settings are you using. I go out with just a few people all the time and can get a better surf wave than almost any boat on the lake still.

2017s can do this as well.

Are you sure this applies to all boats?

If they still have the fins on the bottom of the GEN2 X23 tabs, I'm not sure how you can use these while underway.

I do use all three tabs for auto launch, but they retract at 16 mph.

I have a 2016 X23 and use the tabs to level while underway all the time. No limit on speed when you manually select them.

Yeah...I dont think the problem is the "year" or "Ca"n you use them, It is "shoud you" use them? They will activate on all years/...

At cruise speed the GEN 2 Surf tabs are like Water Scoops.
I would like to know if the Actuators are engineered for that speed and Purpose. ?

^+1 to Larry's comments. Using trim tabs/actuators regularly on a big heavy boat to potentially solve basic cruising manners is very different than say trimming up a sterndrive to hit maximum top speed.
