2003 X2 interior burned!!!

Hi Guys,

First post here. Here is the deal.

I have a friend that took his boat to the interior shop for a complete rework. The shop pulled out the entire interior. While the panels were getting upholstered the shop caught fire and burned to the ground. Insurance paid him to repair the interior panels. Now he wants to get rid of the boat and not deal with the interior issue. The boat is very clean. Under 150 hrs. It just needs the interior panels. Is there salvage yards that might have a complete interior that I could swap?

Seriously doubt it. Best bet would be to pay the piper for a good shop to put it back together.

Others may chime in, but considering that the boat is 15+ years old, I doubt there would be too many yards with your particular boat and panels. Can you post photos of the boat without panels?
One thing to consider, if you can find someone nearby with the same boat, you might be able to get an idea of the panel size and shape, then create your own using marine plywood or Starboard. That would potentially give you a chance to make them custom size and shape.

I have an 03 Maristar 230, it's possible my panels may be the same general shape, just different size. You could use them as a template for an outline.

This hull design ran up through 2011 (becoming the X1 in 2006). If the layout of the seating is the same you could potentially get panels from a newer boat.

What schitty luck!
I'd be calling every boat boneyard in the country. Good news is it was one of the longest running most popular model wake-boats around. Should be more than a few Junkers by now.

What do you mean insurance paid him to do the repairs? If they did that, you wouldn't be posting this. Sounds like insurance got off cheap. Any chance of going back to the well at the Ins co?
He or his ins co should be beating the door down on the shops insurance co. If they can't fix it for him, total it out...

This is a case where you tell the insurance company to fix it and not take a cash settlement in less that was the plan all along (i.e. cost to repair totals the boat, owner takes cash settlement then tries to fix or sell the boat, makes profit). Best bet on this would be to get the boat to a shop like Viper Customs that has done a ton of these and let them fix it right. Won't be cheap but I've got a feeling someone got a pay day on this. That or someone screwed up big time with the insurance settlement.

Was he paid for the panels WITH re-installation?

If he can get new panels from MC or if the boards are OK, I would just have them repaired and use the boat- it's not as if the boat was inside or they took it to the lake and grenaded the engine.

The backing panel material is available- see if MC has the patterns. If not, and if the upholsterer is worth a crap, they should be able to make new ones. It's not rocket surgery, but a good shop can make this look like new.

This is the kind of deal I would look for if I was in the market for a boat like this.

I do believe the insurance paid a fair amount. My buddy just wants out now to buy a new boat. I think it will be a good deal and get me on the water this summer.

I have been calling tons of shops with no luck. Most are saying they are to busy and bring it to me in the winter!
